Somehow, this is a still from a docudrama about one of the UK's most harrowing serial killers. They've just found a woman with 47 stab wounds and a 2yo child clinging to her that the police and British press (both notorious arseholes) are going to harry for details.

Excellently put...
The policy summarizes itself this way:

> It's fine to use LLMs to answer questions, analyze, distill, refine, check, suggest, review. But not to create

The rule should be: someone is legally accountable, always. If AI is bad, some actual human, somewhere, is criminally liable for whatever it did.
Quote from IBM in 1979: "A computer can never be held accountable, therefore a computer must never make a management decision"

Well, that's Burnham fucked. Sorry if you had hope he'd change anything. #votegreen
Screenshot from BBC news summarising Burnham's new cabinet. Shabana Mahmood is still Home Secretary (despite her being vile) and Wes Streeting is now promoted to Defence Secretary (despite being a nasty little corporate shill).

A giant golden aquila is about as explicitly fascist as you can get, but 11 stars? The US never had 11 colonies on its flag. Know who did? The Confederacy. I guess they won after all.
Shitty AI generated slop image, posted originally by Trump, showing a giant aquila (golden eagle statue) with 11 stars to indicate the states that seceded from the union because they wanted to keep owning slaves.

GitHub
Octocat, the mascot of GitHub. It has a chibi human face, but cat ears and whiskers, and the body is 5 tentacles, one of which has suckers and is dripping. Despite sounding from this description like a Lovecraftian horror, it's actually fairly cute.

New TypeScript is a bit shit. Hundreds of errors and obtuse deprecations again 😔
Screenshot of a TypeScript compile error - the terminal shows a failure because `catch(error) { error.name === '...` isn't allowed (as, stupidly, it thinks error is `unknown` rather than `any`). The code itself doesn't show the error.

Removed it. I'm not even sure how it stood up, with almost all the weight of the fake chimney across thermal bricks that come apart like polystyrene.

I like this analysis, and "comprehension debt" is a great term for it! I've seen this kind of codeslop in the wild, a kind of double edged sword that stops juniors from learning while also eating seniors' time to block it.
And the inversion is sharper than it looks. When code was expensive to produce, senior engineers could review faster than junior engineers could write. AI flips this: a junior engineer can now generate code faster than a senior engineer can critically audit it. The rate-limiting factor that kept review meaningful has been removed. What used to be a quality gate is now a throughput problem.

Terry Pratchett in a similar vein...
A quote from Good Omens:

NOTE FOR YOUNG PEOPLE AND AMERICANS: One shilling = Five Pee. It helps to understand the antique finances of the Witchfinder Army if you know the original British monetary system:

Two farthings = One Ha'penny. Two ha'pennies = One Penny. Three pennies = A Thrupenny Bit. Two Thrupences = A Sixpence. Two Sixpences = One Shilling, or Bob. Two Bob = A Florin. One Florin and One Sixpence = Half a Crown. Four Half Crowns = Ten Bob Note. Two Ten Bob Notes = One Pound (or 240 pennies). Once Pound and One Shilling = One Guinea.

The British resisted decimalized currency for a long time because they thought it was too complicated

Why any of this? Why put a massive fake joist in if there's no weight on it? If it was supposed to take the ceiling, how was that supposed to work when it's just resting on thermal bricks?
Close up of the top corner, showing the Victorian plaster moulding above the bricks and the wooden joist resting on the them and an inch below the ceiling.
100
Keith Henry @k17.dev · 03/02/2026
Trick question! The answer is neither! The fireplace is lightweight thermal bricks but comes apart like Jenga anyway, and the big structural looking 'joist' is actually 3× smaller ones just resting on the brick. Everything wobbles, nothing is load bearing.
Another photo of the same fireplace, now with some of the plaster stripped, the leaky gas fire removed and the walls either side demolished.

Keith Henry @k17.dev · 03/02/2026
We bought an old vicarage, and as well as being full of junk it has the largest 80s fireplace I've ever seen. Above it runs a joist, with a naff plaster wood effect. So, is the joist holding the ceiling up, or is the fireplace?
Photo of an incredibly cluttered living room. Centre of the wall is an absolutely massive 80s brick fireplace, with low brick walls either side. Across the top of the wall is a wood-effect joist.

I don't know why anyone thought the Epstein files wouldn't have all mentions of Trump redacted. What, you think they obey the rule of law? Have you been living under a rock? All evidence about Trump & Epstein has already been destroyed, months ago.
In a scene from Home Alone 2 the protagonist asks a famous New Yorker where to go. Said celebrity is blacked out and redacted in exactly the same way that he is in the Epstein files.

I've been sent this vaguely threatening note anonymously. They're bitching about a healthy sycamore that's at least 150 years old, with plenty of space around it.
Note, on a scrappy cut square with white text on a black background. It reads:

Hi,
1st of all welcome to the neighborhood hope you'll be very happy in you're new home the reason for the letter is the monster tree ok the property the council wouldn't do anything as the house has been empty for a long time but as you can see it needs a good trimming back as it shadows over so many properties around so it would be much appreciated if this was put on you're list to do
Thanks you

I drew a chart to explain the problem with Labour (and Starmer/Blairite Blue-Labour in particular). I draw a lot of charts. #starmerout #labour #votegreen
Pair of statistical charts comparing 2 distributions. First is labelled "what Labour believe" and shows a normal or bell curve, showing few on the far right, few on the far left, and most voters in the centre. The second is labelled "how people actually vote" and shows a bimodal distribution with lots on the left, lots on the right, and "fucking nobody" in the centre. This is an illustration of why Labour are so shit at both being in opposition and as the current government.

How is it we have a Labour leader that doesn't even understand Marx? Or is this a deliberate straw man? Splitting working class into low/high earners is divide and conquer bollocks. This is people who work vs people who own.
Tuxedo Winnie the Pooh meme.
He's not interested in "taxing 6-figure earners who still can't afford a house"
He's there for "taxing folks that don't bother to work because they already own lots of houses"

I've been driving a hire car round Portugal for a couple of weeks, and it has the worst speedometer I've ever seen. Speed limits here tend to be 30, 50, 70 or 90km/h. Motorways are 120km/h Find any of those at a glance. What is going on with that scale?

This is "if AGI worked". It doesn't work, it has yet to successfully replace anyone's job, but if it DID work capitalism would still be dead for the same reasons Marx was on about over a century ago - if you don't pay workers, who buys the thing you make?
