One of my biggest pet peeves is when people open a discussion to rank the best ____ of all time when the number one answer is already a foregone conclusion, especially when it's at that position out of momentum rather than any objective, quantifiable merit. "Let's settle this..." No, shit yourself

Point is, seeing this anniversary for Pinkerton and seeing a lot of the talk be about how much Weezer "fell off" after their second album is pretty disappointing. There's so many good songs that most of you have never heard because you're trying too hard to be cool.

White is my favorite Weezer album for personal reasons, but it was well-deserving of the Grammy nomination it got in 2016. I'm sad they didn't play anything from it in Chicago, but maybe some other day. I do also love Pinkerton, and Maladroit, Blue, EWBAITE, Gold...

Everyone knows their output has been all over the place, but I reject the whole idea that their early work stands above their later work. First off, I was at the Chicago show for the Gathering tour night before last, and they played songs from 9 different albums - the whole show kicked ass.

Falling for You. Weezer became my favorite band after I was introduced to them via Guitar Hero III's inclusion of My Name is Jonas. Years later, I confessed my feelings to the girl I eventually married two days after they released the White Album, and Girl We Got a Good Thing became our song.

will eventually find a way to replace all AI-generated code within the program with human-developed alternatives. We all deserve to see an outcome in which non-coders can create the games they dream up, not because a machine enabled them - but because other people did.

But this is little different than creating a game using RPG Maker, wherein the developers of the libraries the engine runs on are unknown to the developer and the end user. It seems to me that the intent is pure enough to be accepted, but only just. I hope, with support, the devs of this engine

Lately, a lot of homebrew games and especially translations have been revealed to have been churned out by Claude or other AIs. I do not and will never support these things; I feel that they disrespect the art, the medium, and the human spirit.

K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Ultimately, this isn't an art project. It's a tool which can be used to create art. I don't want to miss out on seeing what people can create just because a coder somewhere on the backend took a shitty shortcut. This is in stark contrast with how I feel with things which position themselves as art.

The devs of this engine apparently are a very small team who collaborated with multiple other teams, each contributing different pieces of code. The devs couldn't account for the actions of every single contributor, but they themselves seem committed to keeping the project as human as possible.

After reading the dev's statements on AI in the replies to this announcement, I'm going to give a very rare endorsement to something that I know isn't 100% clean. I'll explain why below.

And, of course, Republican voters eventually latched onto a guy who is a racist, a rapist, a draft dodger and a pedophile, and even stormed the Capitol for him when he lost his second election. 9/11 *broke* this country, and the resulting hatred and paranoia has only broken it further.

And since the ultimate mission of fascism is to rescue their imagined world from the weak who stole it from them, any action could be justified from that point forward. Elected Republicans started talking about kids pooping in litter boxes, Haitians eating dogs and cats, and Jewish space lasers.

With everyone "doing their own research," it was only a matter of time before they convinced themselves of the Big Lie, in the sense that Hitler described it. If everything is a lie perpetrated by the "weak" against the "strong," then the strong can ignore the evidence of their eyes and ears.

Racism thrived in the same houses where conspiracies abounded about "the gay agenda," about Obama being a secret Muslim or that he was actually born in Kenya, or that vaccines cause autism. The paranoia kicked off during the Bush administration led to a general skepticism of science and expertise.

First, it showed that conservatives were successful at drawing in young men with the idea that the only way to be strong, manly, and patriotic was to attack those who were different from their WASPy mold. Second, it showed that parents who grew up in the Reagan era were sliding that way too.

To his credit, McCain didn't tolerate his voters making racist or otherwise hateful remarks about Obama when he held his rallies. Out of McCain's earshot, however, they were loud and proud. The first time I ever heard a racist drop a hard R was from someone my own age. That says several things...

Florida was full of old, retired white people who, despite everything they had just lived through, were more afraid of electing a man with the middle name Hussein than they were of John McCain,a hawk with a seemingly permanent boner for war with Iran.

Barrack Obama was elected in a landslide. By 2008, my entire family had swung left. Florida was devastated by the recession, devastated by Bush. Florida turned blue that year, driven by black voters, many of whom living in poverty and voting for the first time. And that scared the racists.

Years of banking deregulation caused the housing market to balloon up like crazy. In 2007, the bubble popped, and the US economy crashed in the worst way since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Bush was a laughingstock with an approval falling below 40%, and a Democratic victory was assured.

The Surge drove them out of Iraq, but many of them simply reformed with other enemies of US occupation and became ISIS/ISIL, much later on. It was a complete shitshow. And to make matters worse, Bush's lack of domestic policy beyond suppressing dissent was about to come due.

K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
To make matters worse, the Iraqi Army had been forced to stand down after their defeat in 2003, and nobody was paying them, so they took up arms to fight the US out of frustration for the occupation and mass unemployment. The US responded with "the Surge," a giant influx of more troops.

By the time I hit middle school, with the objectives of Bin Laden and WMD's totally unfulfilled and the reality of the Bush gov's lies becoming public knowledge, opinion had turned on the wars. The "Global War on Terror" never actually materialized, and it became "Afghanistan and Iraq" again.

Flock Cameras, the efforts to enforce real ID verification online, and more all stem from this abundant paranoia and demand that a benevolent tyrant in the form of the US government keep us safe from danger - by grabbing suspicious people and putting them behind bars.

Even as a child, I knew about the USA PATRIOT Act, which authorized the government to massively spy on American citizens in search of connections with terrorist activities. "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" became the excuse.

It gave them a cudgel that they could use against everyone, just like fascists do. A country's problems could be blamed on the left, blamed on the unpatriotic, the queers, the immigrants, and so on, and recent anti-terror legislation made it easier to target them.

Being against the war could get your career destroyed. Celebrities were admonished publicly for speaking out against it, just like they are now for speaking against genocide in Gaza. So Bush and his allies committed even more to the war.

K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Now, it didn't matter that Kerry fought for this country and Bush didn't - Bush was the military guy and Kerry was the sissy liberal. Kerry was proven right about Vietnam long ago - but he was simply labeled anti-war entirely, and Republicans would tell you that some wars - these wars - were good.
100
K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
His opponent, John Kerry, was a Vietnam veteran who served honorably and was wounded during the last big military disaster we had faced. He received a Silver Star and three Purple Hearts, and then bravely spoke out against the war when he returned. But by 2004, American "patriotism" had changed.

K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
In 2004, Bush comes up for reelection, and despite leading us into two conflicts which will ultimately drag on for decades and cost trillions of dollars, fail to uncover Bin Laden or any Iraqi WMDs, and damage America's reputation with its allies, he wins, and it's not even as close as last time.

Of course, the media fails to cover the protests in much the same way that they always do - to maintain their connections within the administration, the protesters are treated as an angry minority to the silent, patriotic majority. Liberals are characterized as whiny, entitled, or straight up evil.

K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
"You're either with us, or you're with the terrorists," Bush declares as he demands allies join us in Iraq. This time, even with all the fear, not everyone buys it. Protests break out all over the country, celebrities begin to speak out, and allies abroad are reluctant to help us.

I'm 8-years old. The US is charging into war with Iraq because Saddam Hussein has "weapons of mass destruction" that we have to destroy before the terrorists can release Sarin gas in Los Angeles or Anthrax in Miami. Paranoia is already out of control and intensifying.

Problem is, Bush Jr didn't want disarmament, he wanted war, and revenge for the plot against his father. Hussein's lack of cooperation gave him an opportunity. Selective reporting from intelligence agencies, the State Department, and news media built the story up. WMD was the next word I learned.

K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Hussein *did* comply with many of the demands that he was given, but he was reluctant. He likely wanted to convince his local enemies in the Middle East that he still had some chemical weapons squirreled away as a deterrent.
100
K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Now, remember those chemical weapons? Hussein was suddenly target #1, due to Bush Jr's claims that he would provide them to terrorists. Movies and TV shows of the era, like 24, kept Americans believing that an event worse than 9/11 could be right around the corner.

K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Bush Jr insisted that US intelligence find connections and establish a case. By 2003, he and his administration had flogged the idea that Iraq, Iran, and North Korea were in an "Axis of Evil" poised to attack the US using various terrorist fronts.

Hussein not only stayed in power, but he later attempted to orchestrate the assassination of the elder Bush. So when the younger Bush got to power, he reportedly asked on the day of 9/11, "was Saddam Hussein involved?" And despite the overwhelming evidence that he had nothing to do with it...
111
K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
So when Hussein threatened the oil market, the elder Bush led a coalition to crush the Iraqi army in the field, forcing their retreat. Bush then decided to exit, since staying to force a regime change would've pissed off our allies and made a much bigger mess. He assumed Hussein would be overthrown.
100
K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
When Iraq was fighting Iran, the US backed Hussein, despite him idolizing Adolph Hitler. He then used chemical weapons to attack the Iranians and the Kurdish population in northern Iraq. Keep this in mind for a moment.

K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
For those too young to understand, President Bush's father had also been president back in 1989-1993, right before Clinton. At that time, Iraq's dictator, Saddam Hussein, had invaded his neighbor Kuwait under flimsy pretenses to try to seize their oil after a long and difficult war with Iran.
100
K0mori @k0mori.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
Then, in 2003, as people started to wonder how the great and powerful US military hadn't yet found Bin Laden, President Bush suddenly started talking about Iraq. Justice for 9/11 had slowly morphed into something they called the "Global War on Terror."

It would suddenly occur to me that a globe my mom thrifted during my 2nd grade at home had been struck with a hammer - the previous owner had attacked Afghanistan in his own little way. Muslim students were excluded at school like they were radioactive.

Suddenly, it wasn't good enough to just be an American. You had to be a PROUD American. My third grade yearbook was emblazoned with an American flag and a bald eagle. Constant references to "salute the troops" and "America: if you don't love it, leave it" were all over bumper stickers.

When I was in 1st grade, we stood for the pledge of allegiance each morning. In 3rd grade, it was the pledge, the anthem, and then a recording of "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood, every single morning for the next several school years. Kids who sat or talked were called out and shamed.
