So - took the day off work for a Road Trip to get gluten free fish and chips (also poutine, mushroom caps and mozza sticks) and hit some record stores. Came away with 9 new albums. 8 I bought, one, the ZZ Top album gifted by my road trip buddy. #vinyl

And one last fav movie dad, an under the radar one: Bruce Willis from Unbreakable. Things are real complicated in this one but as a portrait of a dad who maybe doesn't feel like he knows how to connect to his kid but is trying it's another really honest and sweet portrayal of a father son dynamic.

I don't know if this falls under "incredibly important news update" or "what the hell are we even doing here" so I leave you all to decide for yourselves.

So my kid told me, in reference to the new Oblivion Remaster, “Well it is a just released Bethesda game, so you might just fall through a hole in the world or something.” And he was right!

Now spinning my newest #vinyl #jazz album - and probably the most polarizing album I own. It is probably either something approaching transcendent or the worst example of “thats not music its just screeching noise” depending on your point of view. I love it. Haunts me. #jazzsky.

A while back I bought a friend and I copies of the Dao De Jing. Once he was having a bad day and I rattled off something that aped the form to try and lift his spirits. We laughed, and sometimes he'll seek more. Yesterday he felt terrible for blowing a test and steam-of-thought I sent this to him.

So apparently next month I get to go and maybe be selected for Jury Duty, and, looking up some info - this is messed up, yeah? Like - how many average-paid-by-the-hour people can afford to lose 10 days pay?

Payment and time off work

Employers are required by law to give employees time off for jury duty and for people selected to serve as a juror. The law does not require employers to pay an employee’s salary during this time.

Jurors receive the following payment for serving on a jury:

    Day one to ten: No fee.
    Day 11 to 49: $40 per day.
    Day 50 to the last day of trial: $100 per day. Trials of this length are rare.

If you’re serving as a juror and the trial lasts longer than 10 days, the court where the trial is taking place will arrange payment.

There is no allowance for childcare expenses or parking.

If you are on Employment Insurance benefits (E.I.), you can attend jury duty and continue to receive benefits.

Had some good things to celebrate today week, so I treated myself to some new #vinyl which I’m #nowspinning a couple classics and a Gaslight Anthem album that I’m almost embarrassed by what I paid for it, but which I couldn’t pass up - it being an absolute favourite and unlikely to be easy to find.

Last night, brisket I BBQ’d all day. Tonight: brisket warmed up in au jus sandwiches with caramelized onions and mushrooms, swiss cheese and a little bit of good mayo blended with honey dijon mustard.
A brisket that had been smoked all day on a couple of cutting boards ready to have some sliced up.
A plate with pieces of brisket, some coleslaw and some corn bread.Some slices of brisket warming in a little au jus in a cast iron pan. Some blue metal and silicon tongs are in resting in the pan too.A sandwhich of toasted gluten free multigrain bread, brisket, swiss cheese, caramelized mushrooms and onions and a little blend of mayo and honey dijon mustard. Sandwhich is cut in half to show its contents (and because its way too messy to try and eat the whole thing as one piece).

The U.S. government is arguing that because they say, with no proof, that people are a member of a gang they have designated a terrorist organization the fact they have no proof of their doing any crimes means they are even more dangerous than if they did.
9. While it is true many of the TdA members removed under the AEA do not have criminal records in the United States, that is because they have only been in the United States for a short period of time. The lack of a criminal record does not indicate they pose a limited threat. In fact, based upon their association with TdA, the lack of specific information about each individual actually highlights the risk they pose. It demonstrates that they are terrorists  with regard to whom we lack a complete profile.

Had to stop posting but further steps: adding those spices, the spinach and tomatoes mix (look how green!) and the paneer.
Cooking onions, garlic and ginger mixing with a blend of spices giving it an reddish-orange colour.Bright green blended mixed of spinach, tomatoes, chilli added to the spices and onions. In this photo it is not mixed yet so the bright green, reddish browns (and the black of the pan and silver of the spatula) are all visible.The bright white cubes if paneer (Indian cheese) is added to the green (now darker green) blend of previous ingredients.

I read once the the secret to cooking with a cast iron pan is to always use *much* lower heat than you think you need or is called for compared to other pans and it is the best tip possible. (I use my pan daily for like, 80% of my cooking)
