I do not see such faith help in the suffering of innocents in Gaza or Ukraine. I do not see such faith deter the evil deeds of powerful men (and women) inflicted on the undeserving. I do not see such faith render justice upon those trangressors. And I do not see where judgement by God matters.

I was an altar boy AND Boy Scout, but was fortunate enough not to have been molested... though there were those around me that were. I did not see the faith alter my mother's terminal cancer, dying at age 61, in any way. I do not see such faith alter my own current terminal ALS journey.

I did NOT have a "shitty time". I did not have a choice, though. The parts that sucked were because of the dogma, doctrine, and theology, NOT the people. Most of my teachers (lay and religious) were wonderful. I still have friends from those days. A sky daddy is not necessary to be fully human.

Having been raised in the Catholic church (baptism to confirmation) I am fully aware of the concocted artifice of religion, regardless of flavor. But even the Judaic context is irrelevant. Other cultures from other parts of the world independently understood the sentiment… and besides, the OT does great job in documenting the hypocrisy of such sentiment in the treatment of “enemies”.
