Experimental post: The Duality of Whacka In the Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, Whacka can finally be fought, and has a suspiciously specific 108 HP. The game both offers a ridiculously simplistic explanation for this as well as a complex one steeped in Dharmic symbolism.

In Paper Mario, the original version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, and Super Paper Mario, Whacka was just a harmless whack-a-mole creature that could be abused to get Whacka Bumps, extremely valuable healing items. After being hit enough times, the Whacka goes extinct, teaching the players the consequences of their actions. However, in the Switch version of Paper Mario: TTYD, he instead moves to the bottom of the Pit of 100 Trials and becomes an optional superboss with 108 HP.

I do think Dawn of Sorrow makes quite a few improvements to the overall gamefeel, though I am really mixed on the thing of using some souls to create better gear In practice that's a great way to encourage players to grind for a soul , maybe find it's pratical, and use it! Buuuuuuuut...

Thing I love about the Castlevanias that are Iga styled is that like You can absolutely sit down and rawdog over 6-8 hours of one session bc of how satisfying it is to explore and grind But you can absolutely (especially in the portable ones) play for about 30 minutes to an hour and take a break
