(Rockville, MD) – Artists & Makers Studios is pleased to host Roz Racanello for the month of May. The exhibit will run from April 29th through May 27th, with a First Friday opening on May 1st from 5-8pm. “Faces/Places” features the work of Roz Racanello. Using paints, pastels, metallic glazes, wax, crayon, and often more unconventional materials, over photo enlargements, often with overly large scale, there is a sense of flipping some part of the perspective in each piece, resulting in a kind of enhanced reality. The photographs are those that she has taken and then used to bring an inner vision forward. The viewer will see what she sees. There is no use of digital art effects or scanning, no reproductions of finished pieces, no multiple editions. Each completed piece is unique and hand-made, a one of a kind finished multimedia artwork. Donté Watson shares a mini-solo exhibit in the Lounge Gallery and Resident Artists exhibit in the Gallery Hall. Enjoy the sculptural work of Francis Maduka Uduh in studio 11, along with nineteen Gallery 209 Member Artists exhibiting their latest work. Pick up a handmade piece of art and support local working artists, makers, and professionals. Light fare generously sponsored each month by The Chesapeake Framing Company.

As a part of our 10th anniversary celebrations at Artists & Makers Studios we are painting murals on our building, and Resident Artist Lea Craigie-Marshall has been hired to help us celebrate this huge milestone.

We are thrilled that our entire building facade will get a glow-up, so tickled that new muraling work will come to our neighborhood, and delighted that our front doors will now be even easier to find. We take pride in our stewardship of this 55 year old building, and thank the building owners for allowing us to realize this long-held dream.

Let the art commence!

Biography: Lea Craigie – Multidisciplinary Artist and Designer

Lea Craigie is an award-winning multidisciplinary public artist, fine artist, sculptor and designer rooted in the DMV region. Born in Falls Church, Virginia, raised between Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, and shaped by a childhood growing up in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, her work blends urban vibrancy with a deep love of nature and history.

Her expansive body of work includes public art commissions, historical and contemporary murals, mosaic murals and sculptures, laser cut steel panel installations, suspended sculptures, molded resin sculptures, stained glass, acrylic panel sculptures, acrylic wall installations, sculptural installations, and fine art painting—many created in collaboration with local governments, nonprofits, developers, and communities.

Whoa! Amazon’s about to show you the Trump tax right at checkout. They’ll list tariff costs so you can see exactly how much more you’re paying because of Trump’s chaos. The White House is not happy about this, but the truth is, you’re going to be seeing this from a lot of retailers very soon.

The administration is mad at Amazon for posting import costs (e.g. tariff pricing). When they make you be transparent it’s so much harder to fool the fools when they have to be parted with their money.
