Feature film from 1970! I recall it being fairly dry, but well done. Basically the US builds a computer to handle all national defense stuff, and they give it control of the missiles..

I got some friends hooked on it recently! Also, have you seen Colossus: The Forbin Project? I've been reading the books lately and they make me want to rewatch it. Sort of a precursor to Terminator 2; and I'm curious to see where the books go - there appears to be a strong bit of Mrs. Davis to them

DC folks, report National Guard sightings at ballot boxes to 866-OUR-VOTE. They are supposed to stay 50 feet away #FreeDC

I think these National Guard troops might be within 50 feet of this drop box at GWU Hospital (photo taken 2 minutes ago).

(Weirdly I actually think the best argument for cracking down on users being abusive to AI is what it does to *humans* and how we interact with other humans)

Similar thought here, too! If you believed it was conscious, you'd (hopefully) stop enslaving it. If you weren't sure.. wouldn't you also pause? They want the awe and marketing of a breakthrough, but not the actual consequences. And/or they value profits above.. not enslaving 😬

My exact initial reaction. Sure the govt. probably has a decent CDN, but not one to carry this in the volume they _want_. Whether or not people actually want to watch is another question. But Twitter always got around it by claiming things were "newsworthy', or giving heads of state exceptions... 🙄

It's pretty common for me to walk through Lafayette Square on my way home in the evenings. It's a brief little respite from the city that provides a nice view and nice company. Trump take park, and I hate it.

The ROI reference doesn't necessarily mean this is something he's bet money on, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. (Also how does he know his team is stacked if he's just letting AI do it, and not doing the research? Recognizing popular players? Which probably all the teams have?)

At my last job, a coworker asked a question in a meeting, I said I'd send an email. I sent a detailed one; it was a complex technical issue. He asked the same question the next day, I asked if he'd read my email. He said "oh it looked long so i didn't read it LOL" 💀

I spotted Jeanne Pirro sidewalk dining at the joint across the street from my house, ran home, wrote some words on a posterboard, and walked up and down the sidewalk with it while she heckled me. May she never eat in peace again.

Ask him to explain it! The moment hasn't passed, you can ask Trump things an hour later, a day later, even a week later. Even if he's evasive, you can ask twice, three times, or more!

This reminds me of the time Sun built a 2U server that was so heavy that if you stacked a standard rack full of them, most raised floors in data centers would collapse. So they rebuilt it as 4U with a bunch of empty space in it :)

How is selling the cards at their fair market price ”helping distribute” Pokémon? Like, you can make the argument they were leaving money on the table, but these guys buying it and jacking up the price doesn’t net TPC more money, and their only “distribution problem” was caused by these bozos

So wait, is the Executive Residence a legislative or judicial agency? I thought these people believed in a unitary executive..
But Trump's White House construction projects are being routed through the Executive Residence, a tiny office that is not a federal agency and is therefore exempt from rules governing agencies.

YES! I just put this in my Jellyfin last week for my hot girlfriend (she said it's ok to call her that). The first movie we ever watched together was Sudden Death, and we - at first accidentally - got on a JCVD kick. Hard Target was _so_ _damned_ good_. Knock Off was not, but it was still fun!

spent building things for my neighbors and condo board, and helping them out in real life. The net has made the world more isolating in a lot of ways, but connecting with friends and neighbors can help subvert that!

has been subsumed by capitalism - YouTube videos, “influencers”, sites with ads, etc; it’s all about making money, because once that became a thing, it became an arms race. But there are still people building great things like free/open software, and helping others. A lot of my computer time is..

Symbols matter. White House isn't a palace. Kennedy Center is for the general public to enjoy. We don't have a triumphal arch in DC because that's imperial. We don't put the president's face on money because it's monarchical. It's about tearing down everything that says we're a democratic republic.

There are other scenarios beyond nuclear winter that suck for humanity, though! How many of our supply chains are tied to the internet, including food? There are also ways to fuck up industrial C&C, even with an air gap (which doesn’t always exist). I’m not preaching the end times by any means, but

Even watching this event live, I knew how bad this was. There was not a moment where I thought this was a good idea; at *best*, it’s a way to outsource listening to literal humans to AI, and I hate it.
Text message reading “ Ok I was gonna do an ultra quick summary of this Apple thing, and /among other things was going to say I didn’t like how they’re starting to vector towards more mainstream AI “fuck it, use it for everything”

And then they just threw out this feature where your watch can basically always be recording and you can retroactively save off conversations for AI recaps and man, fuck that so hard”
