This is my (reluctant!) feeling as well. Yes, expansion opens up a death spiral, and is otherwise bad. But all the other options either wouldn't work or are worse. I do think, if Dems do win big in 2028, they should be open to a deal. But we all know Republicans aren't going to cut a deal.

I think the answer to point 4 is that there is a good chance this Court would declare other reforms to be unconstitutional encroachments on Article III. Court expansion is the only option that immediately puts people on the bench who can vote to uphold the other reforms.

I don't think that's entirely fair, because he does have other proposals. The problems with his proposals is that without adding seats, they'll all fail to reform the court in any meaningful way. Steves right about the problems with court packing, but it still the least bad option.
