The HEAL Act, introduced by @booker.senate.gov, @jayapal.house.gov, and @repbarragan.bsky.social, will remove barriers to health care access and ensure immigrant families can access Medicaid & Medicare. It’s time to recognize health care as a fundamental right, not a privilege.

Medicaid work requirements create utter chaos—at best. At worst, they cause preventable suffering and death. A must-read about what's at stake: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/08/o...
Text: "Over 18,160 people in Arkansas lost coverage in only five months before courts halted the policy. Many were our clients. Adrian McGonigal had chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, for which he received treatment. At the time he held a job working 30 to 40 hours a week at a poultry plant, which paid more than any other job he'd had before and should have satisfied the requirement. But the state's system for automatically identifying working people was faulty, and Mr. McGonigal struggled to navigate the complex monthly reporting system on his own. Unable to report his work, he lost Medicaid, couldn't afford his C.O.P.D. medications, wound up in the hospital emergency room several times, lost his job and never fully recovered. For the next several years he struggled in various minimum-wage jobs, earning much less than he had at the poultry plant. Sadly, he died in November."

Today, the House voted to pass a bill that would make unprecedented cuts to #Medicaid, #Medicare, and SNAP—all to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. @kevinprindiville.bsky.social called the vote an “unconscionable” choice to abandon seniors. Our statement: to.justiceinaging.org/01WlydY
Quote graphic: "A vote to gut Medicaid and SNAP is a vote to abandon seniors. If this bill becomes law, millions of seniors and people with disabilities will have the essential care and support they rely on every day taken away. This isn't speculation-it's a stark reality we have experienced after far less severe cuts." —Kevin Prindiville Executive Director, Justice in Aging

Breaking: The House just passed a budget that slashes Medicaid and SNAP to fund tax breaks for the wealthy. "With this vote, Congress ignored their constituents and chose billionaires," said @kevinprindiville.bsky.social. But our fight continues, and we need your support now more than ever. 👇
Quote: "With this vote, Congress ignored their constituents and chose billionaires. They are prioritizing tax breaks for the wealthy and making the people they were elected to serve pay for them by stripping health care and food assistance from older adults, disabled people, and millions more. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) offers a modest amount of financial help to people who can't work due to age or disability. But the program has not kept up with the times. Every year, thousands of people who depend on SSI have their benefits suspended for going over the asset limit. Thread 🧵

Eric Carlson on the devastating impact that #Medicaid cuts would have on older Americans and people with disabilities: “Nursing home care costs over $100,000 per year, and the expense of either nursing home care or at-home care can consume a person's life savings in very short order.”

Last night, the House approved a budget resolution that mandates trillions of dollars in cuts to Medicaid. But the fight is not over. @kevinprindiville.bsky.social: "We will make sure lawmakers know that voting to enact these cuts would be voting to abandon older Americans."
"With this vote, lawmakers endorsed taking away Medicaid from millions of Americans, including older adults, all to bankroll tax cuts for the wealthy. Thanks to our collective advocacy, the vote to pass this dangerous budget blueprint did not come easily. And we will make sure lawmakers know that voting to enact these cuts would be voting to abandon older Americans." —Kevin Prindiville, Executive Director, Justice in Aging
