A Chance Meeting

Late one night ‘twas dark and stormy
When appeared a boy before me,
Smiling softly in the rain,
In the rain and wind so cold.
“Sir,” said I, “Put on a jacket.
Did you even think to pack it?
You’ll get sick that way, I’m told.”
But the boy just smiled again.

“Sure, I’m freezing,” quoth the stranger,
“But I’m sure I’m in no danger.
Have you lately seen a lass,
Seen her and her mighty sword?
I am looking for my sister,
Thought I’d find her, but I missed her.
I could offer a reward
If you saw the maiden pass.”

The End

Around the campfire there is cheer,
And all are light of heart,
For Alphinaud is speaking here
And plays the poet’s part.

He tells his tale in epic verse
Of heroes long ago
Who fought for better or for worse,
For triumph or for woe.

He honors them across the years,
The brave men far and wide,
And all around the fire shed tears
For Louisoix who died.

The youth has fallen silent now.
His story had no end,
For we must make an end somehow,
Eorzea to mend.
