EXPLORE businesses that are from marginalized groups and values aligned and support them whenever possible. EASE into these new practices and be gentle with yourself. ENJOY the stuff you already got and the quality products of artisans and creatives!

Feeling this today.

I’M GOING BACK TO MINNESOTA WHERE SADNESS MAKES SENSE

BY DANEZ SMITH

O California, don’t you know the sun is only a god
if you learn to starve for him? I’m bored with the ocean
I stood at the lip of it, dressed in down, praying for snow
I know, I’m strange, too much light makes me nervous
at least in this land where the trees always bear green.
I know something that doesn’t die can’t be beautiful.
Have you ever stood on a frozen lake, California?
The sun above you, the snow & stalled sea—a field of mirror
all demanding to be the sun too, everything around you
is light & it’s gorgeous & if you stay too long it will kill you
& it’s so sad, you know? You’re the only warm thing for miles
& the only thing that can’t shine.

Romare Bearden, Martin Luther King Jr.—Mountain Top, color screenprint, 1968

A stylized collagelike representation of a figure, seen from behind - a representation of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. - arms outspreadd, between two groups of silhouetted figures at left and right. A hilly landscape is in the background, with the sun and some clouds in the sky above

I've programmed my computer to auto-replace "Trump" with "convicted felon Donald Trump" when I type because I don't have the guts to call him "the rapist Donald Trump."

AOC: Trans girls are girls. And for all the folks that are so concerned, thank you for your concern for women for the first time. I don't know who has been to gym class, I’ve played co-ed sports all the time

These weren’t all big hits, but here are my favorite mushrooms of 2024

A family of eight Wrinkled Peach mushrooms grow on a mossy log in a green forest. Taken by me, May 2024

A family of vibrant orange enoki grow off the side of a log, their caps are covered in liquid like over-full glasses of water, their gills are illuminated under a bright winter sky. Taken by me, December 2025

A piece of decayed tree bark covered in tiny white Collared Parachute mushrooms with wavy threadlike stems, the bark is held between thumb and forefinger in front of a vibrant green forest background. Taken by me, June 2024

A tuft of trumpet-shaped golden oyster mushrooms grow upright out of a mossy log, their yellow caps shining translucent through their delicate gills. Taken by me, June 2024

Here are some nice mushrooms

A family of splitgill mushrooms grow aligned on the edge of an upturned branch in a bare winter forest. They look like seashells on wet stone

A true artist, revolutionary, thinker and feeler, Stevie Wonder. Always my hero and guide! And as a Taurus he takes good care of his health which is also a good reminder.
