The high-pitched noise? You would imagine! I certainly suffered from it. I only heard of it for the first time last week in Surrey, they do it at a skate park there starting at 10pm. previously I had only known of the super loud looping opera music in many communities

So the drug supply is very unpredictable, PLUS intentional use increases to treat isolation, desperation, and despair. This is even more dangerous when combined with criminalizing just existing—unhoused ppl always need to hide. It’s a recipe for death and it’s being prepared every night, across BC.

So far one takeaway is this: all these things we as a society do to control or deter unhoused/drug-using ppl—displacement, loss, hostile noise environments—just increases drug use. Drugs are cheap and available and effectively numbs anguish.

The entire town of Duncan is filled with a high-pitched squealing noise intended to deter loitering. I stopped there to rest my brain last night but the noise had the opposite effect. I was returning from Nanaimo where I was interviewing about how built environment helps ppl survive/succumb to OD.

Lots of things need money and support right now which I am cognizant of! However, stimulant users are dying of exposure to the toxic drug supply and some users require a pharmacological intervention. We have one but everyone thinks it “doesn’t work” because of misinformation and bad research.

The other day my phone thought I was in America because I was on a southern part of Vancouver island and I screamed. America is the closest landmass to me and I just will never go again for the foreseeable future because of shit like this.

Many would LOVE to be doing heroin instead but it’s not just out there anymore. In 2016, when deaths in BC started ramping up bc of fent, that wasn’t bc of a “fent demand”, it was bc of an adulteration of the substance in demand.

The @theglobeandmail.com article comparing Eur and NA and fent deaths has two glaring errors I’ve noticed so far. 1–blaming opioid overprescription in NA for fent deaths when a third of deaths occur in the absence of OUD. 2–using high rate of fent in OD deaths as evidence for “the demand for fent.”

I’ve lost like 25 lbs of body fat (intentionally, and I think healthily) and the only difference in my life so far is that random men strike up conversation with me a lot more which is confusing and disorienting
