So having griped about the vets and the bag, in fact the cremation service did a lovely job — the urn is cedar and smells wonderful, and the paw print made me a little teary in the best way. Bon voyage, my little bear. You were the best.
On the left is a black leather pet memorial box opened to show a paw print and a brass name plate that says "Lola." On the right is a square cedar urn.

Welp, the emergency vet I took Lola to last week were pretty awful about the whole thing but at least the cremation service put her ashes in a fancy shopping bag I guess

Album cover of Liz Phair's 1993 Exile in Guyville. A black and white photo of her topless against a black shadowy background that shadows her eyes (or with a black cloth/shawl/fabric draped over her head?). She's angled toward the camera, her mouth open like she's yelling or about to swallow something (given this album, probably the latter), with several chain necklaces of different lengths, including a choker with a black stone pendant, draped around her neck and down her chest. Her name and the album title run across the image in purple block type.

Just commemorating how much I love New York City theater, in light of some impending news. (I’m a small account! This is not big news unless you’re me and/or maybe a dozen other people! It’s just taking me a little adjusting, is all.)
A stage in preset blue light. The set is small sofa center stage with a pyramid of high end shopping bags on either side and and big blank flat upstage.

In the midst of all the depressingness I thought I'd share a window into the uplifting, moving work of being a theatrical intimacy director, epitomized by this exchange I had with the fight director on my recent project about the work I did on a very specific, nearly 30-second long sound cue.
Image of the following Messages exchange:

Fight Director: Oh my God you worked on the fart?! The audience LOVED it!

Me: YAYYYYYYYY!!!!
Yeah. I just wanted to create something that looked like a stadium wave going around, except with people getting hit with the fart -- hear, then smell, then flee
I mean that was a LOONNNNGGG cue, it needed something
Maybe I'll put "Fart Direction" under special skills on my resume

Post a pic you took, no context, to bring some zen to the feed.
a forest after an ice storm. mid-height ice-covered winterberry bushes in the foreground, ice-covered, bare deciduous trees in the background. a beam of bright cold winter sun angles down through the trees from the upper right corner, turning the scene into a crystal forest.

Screenshot of a post about an AI that can go to school for you. White text on a black background reads:

If an AI can go to school for you what’s the point of going to school? For Advait Paliwal, Brown dropout and co-creator of Einstein, there isn’t one. “I think about horses,” he said. “They used to pull carriages, but when cars came around, I'd argue horses became a lot more free,” he said. “They can do whatever they want now. It would be weird if horses revolted and said ‘no, I want to pull carriages, this is my purpose in life.’”

It has been a lonnnggg trip back around to making theater again, and it's come with more than a few sacrifices. But I am enormously grateful to be on this ride.
Block text which reads:
This was my first time ever doing an intimacy scene and julie made me feel so comfortable and confident i felt like i’d been doing this for a hundred years. She was always prepared to handle any situation and i could always count on her to advocate for me. She’s extremely capable while also being friendly, funny, and easygoing. I never once even felt awkward.

- Establishing and ensuring an environment where actors feel confident and free to be their best, bravest creative selves - Being prepared to address and advocate for anything from a quick hygiene blip (disposable pre-pasted toothbrushes, anyone?) to a potential safety issue

My first testimonial as an intimacy director! Sharing not only because I'm thrilled and even proud (not easy for me to admit, I was raised to think that's bragging), but because it expresses everything I love and believe in about intimacy directing (besides choreography, which is a blast):

Jesus christ. The president of Barnard College wrote this opinion piece in the NYT today. It contains this paragraph. I'm a Barnard alum. Genuinely sickened. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/17/o...
Exerpt from an opinion piece in Today's NYT by the president of Barnard College, which reads: Some on social media have attempted to minimize the broader implications of Mr. Kirk’s assassination by pointing to his extreme views, such as his arguments that some gun deaths are an acceptable price to pay for the right to bear arms. These attempts are like blaming a victim of sexual assault for going to a party wearing provocative clothing.

This is the time when I repost my favorite picture of Hellie the Cat, in which she figured out how to get outside the window but not how to get back in.
A black cat with yellow eyes sits on her haunches outside a glass window pane, eyes wide and round, stuck between the window and the screen behind it. If there were a thought bubble above her head it would read "WHY IS THE AIR GET HARD?"

Item #3 of today's Washington Post Trump tracker email, which reads:

Update: Weeks after the Trump administration attempted to remove [Voice of America Director] Michael Abramowitz from his position, a judge ruled only an advisory board could do so.

Complications: Trump can’t get the board in question, the International Broadcasting Advisory Board, to do so, because he fired the entire board shortly after taking office.

When I had to tear out the original wood planks of the walls I asked the guys to save them for me. Then I cut them into these shelves. There's something beautiful to me about the fact that the DNA of the house is still here, just transformed into something new and useful for this moment in time.

If you are the kind of neighbor, like mine, who will cut down an entire swath of trees that aren’t yours in order to open up the view from a ridge that is also not yours, be advised that I am the kind of neighbor who will strategically place outdoor furniture all along said ridge. OOOPSIE.
