Social media has reshaped political communication—but how diverse is the research behind it? Our systematic review published in SComS answers this question. Together with the wonderful co-authors Kira Klinger, @juliametag.bsky.social, and Lukas Lindenschmidt. doi.org/10.24434/j.s...

I am super excited to serve as an editor of @scmeditor.bsky.social. It’s the official journal of #dgpuk, it’s open access, it is in English and German, it supports registered reports. So great journal all around, go submit your work :) #dgpuk2025

The image shows a presentation slide about an editorial board change (“Herausgeber:innenwechsel”) for what appears to be a German academic publication. The slide contains a mistake in the name of one of the proposed new editors. The person on the right side under “Wahlvorschlag” is labeled as “Mario Bachl” in the slide, but the correct name should be “Marko Bachl” instead. The slide shows outgoing editors Julia Metag and Kerstin Thummes on the left under “Verabschiedung” (farewell), and proposed new editors Helena Stehle and Marko Bachl (incorrectly labeled) on the right. The presentation is taking place in an auditorium with organizational logos for SCM and DGPuK visible at the top of the slide.

Misinformation isn't random - it's strategic. 🧵 In the first cross-national comparative study, we examine 32M tweets from politicians. We find that misinformation is not a general condition: it is driven by populist radical right parties. with @julianachueri.bsky.social doi.org/10.1177/1940...

How do people use social media if they overestimate their knowledge about science issues like COVID-19? 🦠 Our new study shows: In Germany and Taiwan, overestimation is not linked to social media exposure, but to more engagement – and to populist views of science. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Title and abstract of our new study "The interplay of knowledge overestimation, social media use, and populist ideas: Cross-sectional and experimental evidence from Germany and Taiwan", published in Communication Research.
