10 years ago today, I accepted my first #research job in an #entomology lab, focusing on #bee research. That summer, I knew I wanted a career in #science. Past Julia couldn’t have imagined where that opportunity would eventually lead her, but present Julia is so happy that she took that chance. 🥰❤️

#BlackGuillemots are widely distributed #seabirds, nesting under rocks along coastlines, which makes surveying an entire population challenging. This project is a great example of #CommunityBasedMonitoring that will support the assessment of #guillemot populations in the UK!

New research introduces “overlap intensity”, a metric that goes beyond area shared by #seabirds and #fishing vessels to include how many #birds are affected, showing stronger competition for prey than overlap metrics alone. A useful tool for #fisheries management and #MarineProtectedArea planning!

It’s been far too warm here in #Iqaluit, #Nunavut this winter. The open water season was longer, and January was our warmest season on record with an average temperature of -14.5°C. Bring back the cold! ❄️
