I know I have been *terrible* at keeping up on here BUT I have a new paper that I'm excited to share with y'all! 📑Full article: doi.org/10.1037/fam0... 💻Short summary: www.growkudos.com/publications... 🧪 #PsychSciSky #Psychiatry #devpsy
Infographic with bright colors. Title says: Activation Parenting Strategies and Relations with Child Self-Regulation and Engagement. The left box says: Fathers' and mothers' responses to child distress that encourage kids to face challenges were linked to flexibility & frustration tolerance and curiosity & persistence. In the middle, there is a laptop with a screen that says: 66 dads & 612 moms of 2- to 5-year-olds in the US completed surveys. There is another box under that that says: Associations held after controlling for the significant effects of other supportive responses. The right side has a sticky note that says: Beyond traditional supportive practices, parents may promote their children's socioemotional development through activation parenting. The citation for the article is at the bottom: Feldman et al. (2025), Journal of Family Psychology.

Beyond excited to share, "Best Practices for Recruiting and Retaining Fathers in Parenting Research: Insights from Fathering Researchers", led by @aadeneault.bsky.social with amazing co-authors @julia-feldman.info @alpaytuglu.bsky.social @sjss.bsky.social and others not on BlueSky 😄
Infographic describing how to recruit fathers in research -- successful practices recommended by researchers specializing in fatherhood. The Recruitment strategies include team composition (ensuring presence of men, ethnocultural representation, and heavy training), recruitment locations and methods (prioritizing direct community-based approaches to recruit fathers where they are and building trusting relationships with community partners), specifically targeting fathers (using the word "dad" or "father" in recruitment materials instead of parent, using visuals featuring fathers), and being flexible (adapting data collection schedules and using technology to meet fathers where they are). Retention strategies include building a trusting relationship with fathers and maintaining contact between waves of the study

Pushed my student to ask for feedback on her predoc fellowship application from a program officer (PO) at NIH. This used to be a near-necessity; they would tell students about recent rule changes that might affect them, for example. PO responded w/a form email that they can't give feedback. Yikes.

The Trump administration illegally arrested and detained Mahmoud Khalil, a lawful permanent resident and recent graduate of Columbia University, in direct retaliation for his advocacy. The government must immediately release him from custody.
Brown graphic with text "“This arrest is unprecedented, illegal, and un-American. The federal government is claiming the authority to deport people with deep ties to the U.S. and revoke their green cards for advocating positions that the government opposes. To be clear: The First Amendment protects everyone in the U.S. The government’s actions are obviously intended to intimidate and chill speech on one side of a public debate. The government must immediately return Mr. Khalil to New York, release him back to his family, and reverse course on this discriminatory policy.”
