I feel like H3VR2 is almost a case study on the benefits of prototyping. Like, the amount of crazy cool stuff you guys have been able to build by using H3VR1 as a giga-prototype / template is super cool to see. It's like all the mechanics I mostly already know but just SO MUCH more polished

Is it accurate? No. Is the trigger light and crisp? Good lord, no. Ah, but is it powerful? Also, no. But it's mine, and it provided me with such a much-needed mental health break to work on it, and I will be forever grateful for that.

Fitting that spring was THE sketchiest, scariest thing I've ever done, requiring balancing the cylinder / spring / pin guide tool inside a sash clamp and carefully tightening it until the spring goes in. It went in, EVENTUALLY, with four hours of pain and suffering.

A whole bunch of incredibly scary things attached to a ridiculously strong spring in a vice that could (and did, multiple times) ping out at any second with the force of an angry god.

0/10 do not recommend.

And we're done! I'm really quite proud of this, even though the blueing could be better, the finish could be shinier, the scope could be better etc. etc., this was such a fun project and such a tonic to do something practical for a change.

Finishing touches - I got these replacement (used, but better condition) screws with fixing washers which were mostly absent in the original set on the left, they're less stripped and deeper in black colour.

Instead I went with this much smaller but similarly capable vector optics. I don't particularly like the styling for this older rifle and I'll probably look for something else down the line but it gets the job done.

One thing I never touched on is the scope - it came with this, let's say... budget offering. A Centre Point 4x32 CP4032. It's not great, and I wanted something better - unfortunately, the lovely Nikko Sterling scope I got for this build was 2mm too long to open the barrel with. Sods law.

A kind of crap scope. Gets the job done but uh, anything that needs a screwdrive to adjust elevation is no bueno in my book

After blueing (same process as before), it took on this lovely polished metallic charcoal look.
