Mikhail

Full name: Mikhail Alexandrov
Born and raised within the Soviet Union. The sad tale of Mikhail is that had he only grown up under better circumstances, he would have ended up a very different person. Instead he is parented by Ivan Alexandrov and Alma Stepanova. Alma is a loving, devoted mother, finding herself under the abusive tyranny of her husband, Ivan. Before his sixth birthday, Mikhail’s mother abruptly disappears, never to be heard from again. Only years later does Mikhail understand his father was most certainly involved in her disappearance - and for all intents and purposes - murder. This leaves Mikhail growing up under his father’s unforgiving reign. Violent correction is the only shared physical bond between father and son. Long before his teenage years, Mikhail has become an angry, emotionally constipated boy. Soon he too speaks with his fists.
In his late teens, Mikhail smuggles himself into a bar. Thanks to looking far older and meaner than his eighteen years, no one questions his pressense. There he’s introduced to Lev Antonov, an openly gay man and a poet. Repulsed at first, Mikhail quickly grows intrigued by this unapologetic young man. Eventually they end up in a secret relationship. All the while Mikhail claims he’s not gay.

A year or so passes and the two men spend every available moment together. Mikhail, already broken and unfamiliar with love, often responds to Lev’s affection with violence. Yet Lev keeps seeing him. One day while out walking, Mikhail comes across a mob beating someone up. When he finally sees who’s on the ground, receiving the punches, he spots Lev. They lock eyes, but Mikhail quickly leaves, terrified of being connected to this queer man and in turn outed as queer himself. Because he is not gay.
Later that same day, when trying to visit Lev, Mikhail is rejected by his bruised and wounded lover. Enough is enough. They are through. Returning home with a broken heart and confused mind, Mikhail is greeted by his father who has indeed discovered his son’s “abnormalities”. A horrible fight ensues - a fight where Mikhail quickly realizes that this time he will join his mother in an awful statistic unless he defends himself. During their tussle, a fire breaks out inside the house. Within minutes, the entire house is ablaze and soon thereafter the roof collapses, trapping both men inside. Ivan dies, while Mikhail is rescued by fire fighters. This is how he obtains his iconic scar stretching from his face, all the way down to his leg.

Wrongfully charged for the murder of his father, Mikhail is sentenced to prison. There he is forced to fend for himself every day and partake in sick games orchestrated by the warden. One of these games results in the loss of his left pinkie, as well as bestowing him with a gold canine. Two years later, Mikhal is put on parole when his case reopens. Not trusting the justice system within his own country, Mikhail flees, becomes a fugitive and after an arduous journey, ends up in Paris. This is where he meets Luca and their story begins. His criminal nickname becomes “The Bear” and “The Bear with the serpentine scar”.
