They want to anthropomorphize AI because this is how you forge connections between human clients/customers and the technology. In this scenario, it is the human that will, eventually, serve the machine, not the other way around.

World politics makes me question anthropology’s insistence on the capacity of humans to constantly innovate & side with Freud’s Wiederholungszwang. It’s not history repeating, but structures re-occurring. This is because all humans need, demand & desire. We are endless variations on limited themes.

Wrapping up thread for today. What seems clear is that student protests aren't going away until the gov puts money on the table. What is also clear is that Macron's government has totally lost control of the police. Whether this is intentional or not, I'll leave that for historians to debate.

Rgd Fanon:The most striking part his work is the internalization of subordination. You can't fight what is inside of you. And if you try, you die along with it ... that's what his psychiatric cases show brilliantly, I think. But nobody reads these because they all like the revolutionary part better.

Prof. Rita Kesselring | Prof. Thomas G. Kirsch

This trans-border Anthropology/Ethnography colloquium brings anthropologists and ethnographers from three research institutions together: the University of Konstanz, the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz and the University of St. Gallen. It provides the possibility to connect over current texts and debates in our discipline and aims at
intensifying collaboration. With one event happening in Konstanz and the other in St. Gallen, we explicitly invite all our postdoctoral researchers, doctoral students and Master students to join us in this new format!

Important to say that it is over the issue of “remigration” (the forceful returning of Rohingya & Myanmar nationals who fled to Malaysia, seeking safety) that this recognition occurs. In “accepting” the unwanted, Myanmar performs stateness. It plays with state effects just as it did at the ICJ.

This supports my hypothesis that the stateless are an integral part of the state system because it is through them that stately performances can occur. “Myanmar” (aka the military) is an excellent case to demonstrate this, but by far not the only one.

If you are willing to sit it out, a military general, responsible for almost 10.000 deaths, will be able to act as the legitimate head of state via the recognition by other states. What is a state? Whatever gets accepted as one. Min Aung Hlaing played the ICJ, the UN and now ASEAN. Europe is next…
