For all the downer takes we see on Bluesky, the AP comments section gives it a run for the money!
I get that the humans think they are doing a good thing for the babies, but it's a little like taking a toddler to Yellowstone, it's not something that benefit them.Aww. Now how about taking some underprivileged HUMAN CHILDREN to the same place and giving that news coverage?Sharks in aquariums with kittens watching? The whole thing is sick.
First, sharks don't belong in aquariums so... EDITED“The group is overseeing some 1,000 kittens this year. " It might help if stray tom cats were neutered when found/caught, and try to reduce the number of orphaned kittens... How many of these kittens end up getting euthanised because they can't find a home?

It’s uncomfortable, but I will actually state the (unstated) premise out loud: “Wait, is the joke that men should be allowed to…?” By putting such harsh words into your mouth, you force the other person to take responsibility for making you say something clearly wrong (when explicitly stated).

The next question: “even if true, was that explicitly as a result of the content of their coverage?”

I wonder how “ex MAHA” would adapt to a modern, patient-centered medical system, led by a new progressive political movement, if it meant they would have to acknowledge their pet condition or treatment as pseudoscience? Without rigousous scientific principles, it’s easy for MAHA to be a big tent.

I think we can learn from the sad failures of Reconstruction. It utterly failed to dismantle the systems of power and oppression that allowed Confederate ideals to flourish long after Appomattox. Reconstruction 2 will need to do a whole lot better.

He may give non-answers like “I do it my own way”, and “none of your business”. But that would clearly expose the spectacle. Not sure it would make a difference, but at least he would have to admit (not explicitly) his bigotry.

These are questions I wouldn’t necessarily ask my trans friends (especially the third), but if he wants to use it as a spectacle, he should have to explain it.

It seems like a few simple questions exposes the hatred. Like: “In what ways do you express your femininity?” “How did you avoid dysphoria during your coming out phase?” “How do you think about when and for what reason to sometimes identify as a transgender woman?”

When you referenced this: “In decades past, when the party machine was stronger…” Was the “party machine” the DNC? Or state and local parties? If the voters wanted the DNC (or any state/local party) to reassert the party machine, is such a thing even possible? Or is it from a bygone era?

I think it’s important that we describe things accurately. You didn’t. Normally, I don’t care, because there are no consequences for random people on the internet using imprecise language. Here, people use that kind of language to dehumanize, so there are consequences.

Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
That is non-responsive. Do you stand by your assessment that an appropriate description of what’s happening in Gaza as “massively suck” for the people of Gaza? Do you think that description is adaquate?
101
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
Do you think that you should also minimize the suffering in Gaza while we do it? Does that benefit anybody? Except for people who would equally dehumanize both Palestinians and people receiving assistance from USAID? It seems to help their cause.

Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
If you honestly can’t stop fo a moment, read your own words, look at what’s happening in Gaza, and find a better description than”massively suck”, you may have lost your humanity.

Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 04/04/2026
I’m going to go out on a limb and say “massively suck” is the wrong choice of words here. Lots of words to choose from, but not these.

(46/46) [CLOSING] MARTOK: Today we learned that Jaguars need chargers, convertibles are traps for handsome fools, tire pressure stickers are not optional literature, low mileage does not exempt you from maintenance, and every shop estimate tests your self-respect.

Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(45/46) CALL 7: BEVERLY CRUSHER CRUSHER: My son insists that because I only drive a few miles at a time, I don’t really need to change my oil very often. MARTOK: Ha! The boy is wrong. Mileage matters, but time matters too. Obey the manual, not your son.

(44/46) CALL 6: DEANNA TROI TROI: I keep scraping the right-front wheel on curbs when parking. MARTOK: You do not need a mechanic. You need geometry. In an empty lot, practice with a cone until you learn where the right-front wheel actually tracks. Angle your mirrors down slightly.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(43/46) MARTOK: And if the shop says, “they all do that,” then leave. That phrase is the national anthem of the incompetent.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(42/46) GEORDI: I wanted to hear someone else say it before I went back to the shop. MARTOK: Ah yes. You needed the sacred phrase: “It did not do this before.” GEORDI: Exactly. MARTOK: Use that phrase. Calmly. Repeatedly. Like a liturgy.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(41/46) GEORDI: What if all that checks out? MARTOK: Then alignment, worn suspension part, axle issue, maybe wheel bearing. But because it began after tires, you pursue tires with relentless suspicion until proven otherwise.
110
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(40/46) MARTOK: Rotate front to rear and see whether the vibration changes location. Get a road-force balance, not just the usual lazy spin-and-shrug. Check for bent wheel, slipped belt in the tire, uneven seating, lug-centric nonsense, all of it.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(39/46) GEORDI: ...steering wheel only a little, mostly through the seat. MARTOK: Good. A real problem. GEORDI: It began after new tires. MARTOK: Then ninety percent chance the tires were not balanced correctly, one has excessive road-force variation, or a wheel is slightly bent.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(38/46) CALL 5: GEORDI LA FORGE MARTOK: Next. Speak. GEORDI: Geordi La Forge. MARTOK: Engineer! Finally. What obvious thing has everyone else missed? GEORDI: I’ve got a weird intermittent vibration at highway speed. Starts around sixty-eight, fades by seventy-six...

(36/46) MARTOK: Also, do not ignore tire warnings. Those are among the few dashboard complaints that occasionally earn the right to be dramatic. WORF: Understood. MARTOK: And Worf— WORF: Yes? MARTOK: A Honda Pilot. WORF: It is practical.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(35/46) WORF: And if the warning persists? MARTOK: Then you may have a bad sensor, a puncture, or one tire still low. But first undo the heroic overinflation. WORF: I believed firmness was strength. MARTOK: In battle, yes. In tires, not always.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(34/46) WORF: I do not read stickers. MARTOK: Then you suffer. Set them correctly when the tires are cold. Then drive the vehicle. Sometimes the system needs a few minutes to stop panicking. On some cars you must manually reset it through the menu.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(33/46) WORF: A Honda Pilot. MARTOK: Ha! You have inflated your family chariot like a ceremonial drum. Look at the sticker in the driver’s door jamb. The correct pressure is there. Not on the tire sidewall. Not in your heart. On the sticker.
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(32/46) MARTOK: Excellent. The ancient conflict between man and dashboard. What pressures did you set? WORF: I made all four equal. MARTOK: That is not what I asked. WORF: Forty-two. MARTOK: Forty-two? On what vehicle?
100
Josh Smith @jtsmith.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
(31/46) CALL 4: WORF MARTOK: Next caller. WORF: Worf, son of Mogh. MARTOK: Ha! Speak, brother. WORF: My vehicle displays a tire pressure warning. I have added air. The warning remains. I have added more air. It still remains.

(30/46) MARTOK: There! You see? We agree completely and hate each other’s phrasing. DATA: I do not hate your phrasing. MARTOK: Then learn. It is part of growth.
