Truth doesn't matter. What matters is the feeling of victimhood and that MAGA is in the right to feel hatred to those not like them. Emotion is usually more impactful than fact.

Brings me back to Colbert's "Truthiness" from 20 years ago. Saying that Mamdani never commented on the recent stabbing on an NYPD officer feels like it *should* be true to the MAGA base. It reinforces what they want to believe about Mamdani.

Parts of California, Oregon, and Washington would in turn secede from that new country. I live in a part of Oregon that would like to be added to Idaho. I used to live in another part of Oregon that wanted to join with Northern California to become the state of Jefferson.

It wasn’t until my 40s until it dawned on me that the Ivy League’s worth is for the social connections not the education. But hey, I went to a public university whose football team is only in the FCS subdivision. My intellect can only get so high. 🤷‍♂️

My takeaway from the article is the mention of Hegseth’s Princeton degree. There’s a lot of ignorant Ivy Leaguers in the Republican hierarchy which begs the question of why does American society these institutions in such high regard.

I can’t believe Putin could have anticipated a great strategic outcome like this upon Trump’s reelection. And by conflict between Iran and the US. 😳

TLDR: Believe women. Believe us when we talk about horrific things that you see circulating in the news, but also believe us when we talk about our discoveries, our science, our interests, our understanding, our experience, our work. The world is quite literally better for everyone when you do.

Voters are already voting in the midterms. This year, some voters are trying something new to get ready for the election: asking AI to help research their ballot and even decide who to vote for.

That was true for my mother as well. I ruined The Empire Strikes Back for my father when he took me and Yoda freaked me out. For my brother, it was ET. For my sister, it was the dragon in Sleeping Beauty.

Deschutes National Forest, Oregon
Main entrance road to Mt Bachelor Ski Area from the Cascade Lakes Highway. Clouds are moving about near the mountain ridge lines. The snow-covered peaks of South Sister and Broken Top are visible. The peaks of Middle Sister and North Sister are obscured by clouds. The roadways travel through dense forest.

Rs only want an empowered Congress during a Democratic presidency and wants an impotent Congress during a Republican presidency. Or just a Republican tyranny with no power derived from the people.

Mt Bachelor, Deschutes National Forest
Mt Bachelor is crowned in snow from peak to around the treeline. Some ski runs look like scars on its slopes. In the foreground a log lays in a meadow of brown grass. That meadow was a former portion of Sparks Lake. Some clouds are hanging in the blue sky.

Pumice desert, Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
Browned grass and the occasional evergreen tree sprout from the ground of volcanic rock. Off in the distance rise forested hills and some cumulus clouds near the horizon. Blue sky and sunshine otherwise.

Mt Thielsen as viewed from the punice desert in Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
ordering the pumice desert where the photo is taken. There are some clouds to the right of the peak in an otherwise blue sky. The pumice desert is not a desert due to lack of rainfall. Instead, the volcanic rock soil makes it difficult for vegetation to take root, even grass. Trees grow sporadically within this “desert” with grass find more success, but it is patchy.

Atop Garfield Peak are a scattering of rocks. Atop one rock is a chipmunk. Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
The dirt ground is broken up in various places by protruding rocks. A chipmunk cautiously waits near the top of the largest rock in the frame. There are quite a few humans around not in frame. Vegetation grows sporadically up on this peak at around 8,000 feet in elevation: grass, shrub, and wind-stunted tree.

Looking from Crater Lake’s southern rim towards Upper Klamath Lake
In the foreground is generally rocky ground with some grass and sporadic trees growing on it. As the slope descends thick forest envelopes the ground. Forested hills and ridges dot the far landscape. In the far distance in the flat land, forest gives way to ranch land and beyond that Upper Klamath Lake. Blue sky by and large though some clouds can be seen on the horizon.

Garfield Peak Trail, Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
A dirt trail zig zags from a grassy slope across a saddle on the crater rim on to a steep rocky slope. Trees grow wherever they can find enough soil to thrive, which seems intermittent above 7,500 feet in elevation along the mostly steep crater rim. There is a puddle along the trail from at least two days worth of showery weather, but it was sunny blue skies this particular morning.

Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
The blue waters of Crater Lake become turquoise abruptly in the shallows. This mostly steep section of the Crater rim supports little vegetation. But some trees have taken root in the less steep slopes.

A clear blue sky (excepting the little bit of cumulus nimbus clouds barely visible just above the crater rim in the distance) is reflected by the lake. Wizard Island rises above the water. Trees grow from the steep slope going down to the water in the foreground.

More than a few liberal columnists have stated that. Athletic women are especially troublesome for the Right because the premise flies in the face of strict gender roles. *Men* are the ones to have strength and athletic skill. If women can ball just as well as men, a lot of arguments fall apart.

Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
A shallow stream winds its way through what visually looks like a canyon if trees (but the ground is actually pretty level here). There ate debris logs and branches in the stream. All the vegetation is verdant. The dirt trail makes a brief appearance in the lower right. It the distance the tops of some trees are illuminated by sunlight.

Castle Crest flower meadow, Crater Lake National Park, Oregon
In the immediate foreground is grass and a gray rock in the lower right corner. To the left just past the grass is shrubbery with an evergreen tree rising in the middle of it, but still quite small compared to the other trees nearby. Another juvenile tree, on the right, grew at an angle before becoming nearly vertical. The more mature forest is seen on the right and encircles the grass and shrubbery meadow.

I'm only speaking about *my* experience from 20 years ago, and not an experience of Texas. The vast majority of these church goers listened to Focus on the Family and read the Left Behind series. They were steeped in white conservative Christian culture. It was pretty insular... and scared.

Spiritual warfare was hyped. Christians were perceived as under attack by mainstream culture (because it was given a place of predominance). It was very much tribal identity. But there were some of a liberal slant in attendance, some with quasi-leadership roles. They were tolerated.

I was a church member of a non-denominational Christian church in a Portland, Oregon suburb in the aughts. Culture war issues of the era were frequently preached from the pulpit. It was implied that real Christians voted R.

It's not about logic. Yes, Carter was a self-identified evangelical Christian, but he was not in favor of the policies that white Conservative Christians of his era wanted, thus they disowned him. And Carter was widely mocked for his Playboy magazine interview.

Emotion fuels a lot sports fandoms. Because it isn’t rational fans would be more willing to spend more for the experience and merchandise. It fits nicely with the elite on the Right relying emotions (culture war issues) to rally their electorate.
