Interesting interview with @gofundme.com CEO Tim Cadogan and @reckless.bsky.social. Cadogan says an advantage of private donations over the public safety net is that donations come "with love". This ignores consistent findings that this 'love' is distributed very, very inequitably.
"No system is perfect, and we can supplement that. It gives people a way to come together that is different from an institution supporting you. An institution can do a lot. The NHS can do a lot. Medicare in Australia can do a lot, but it’s not coming with love, right?"

In the most recent version of this fundraiser, the campaign has exceeded the original $200k goal, increased the goal to $300k, and removed the reference to Frey being Jewish.

I agree that there are grounds to report this fundraiser but GiveSendGo will absolutely not cancel it. They are actively using the potential for cancelation on GoFundMe to market this fundraiser and supporting fundraisers for right wing figures accused of violence is their brand (e.g., Rittenhouse).

What's the violation? For context, they are using this as an opportunity to brand themselves in contrast to @gofundme.com as not canceling fundraisers like this.

A query "What are the most recent papers describing the ethical issues raised by medical crowdfunding?" produces as a first result a paper by @kenworthy.bsky.social. Excellent paper (!) but as it is from 2020 perhaps not the "most recent". Not clear why someone would use this over regular scholar.

These campaigns did fairly well be the standards of crowdfunding, raising median $3,675.04. That's generally far short of what is needed to access these therapies however and, as is typical when crowdfunding, there was a big difference in outcomes ranging from $0-$2,400,256.

These are representative donor comments calling for more government involvement in the provision of health care in the US and regulation of large corporations - not GiveSendGo's usual user base. At the same time, for example, you can donate to buy new tires for a white nationalist's 'Hitlermobile'.
Donor comments reading: "Well, the insurance robber barons had to know this was coming, while laughing that the federal government and state insurance commissioners do NOTHING to protect us. Just wish I could give more" and "I do not support killing, BUT I do support the good fight for all to have healthcare needs met universally and to come together and break division".

If you're wondering why it would be awkward to name a medical school that "confronts the colonial history of medical education" after Simon Fraser, here's Fraser describing anointing the heads of sick Indigenous children with Laudanum in order to not "to disappoint them".
Three or four children, who were unwell, were brought tome by their parents for medical assistance. As I did not think fit to disappoint them, I sent one of the gentlemen for a vial of Turlington. He brought me Laudanum. Considering the one of equal virtue with the other towards a cure, I mixed a few drops of what he brought with water. In this mixture I dipt my finger which I gently applied to the forehead of the sick. Believing no doubt in miracles within a few moments, there were upwards of four score applicants for a touch of my fin-ger; and had we remained any length of time, I have reason to believe the whole camp, which exceeded 1200, would have followed the example. Most of the children were really afflict-ed with some serious disorder which reduced them to skeletons. The women of this tribe had the neatest dress of any we have seen in this quarter.

The geographical distribution of abortion access campaigns favoured the Northeast, California, and Texas. These are generally areas that have faced the fewest new post-Dobbs restrictions. This raises the question of whether post-Dobbs support of abortion access campaigns will be long lived.

GiveSendGo, a Christian 'freedom loving' platform blocks abortion access campaigns. Abortion restricting campaigns on their site performed much worse than campaigns on rival GoFundMe.

My employer is running sponsored content about a new medical school it is building and this is quite the sentence.
While the new school will be state-of-the-art with future-facing technology for simulated lab spaces, artificial intelligence and virtual reality, it will stay true to SFU’s core mission set out decades ago – to inspire creative, analytic thinking in students that can benefit the community and impact the province.

Over on Xitter, GiveSendGo has responded by complaining that I chose to bash them on social media rather than contact them directly. To be clear, I flagged this campaign directly using their own reporting system two weeks ago and then followed up directly again last week. The campaign is still live.
