It's been brutal going thru my parents' treasures, weighing what to sell or keep. Seeing art like Lalique now go for zip, I've decided to keep what I truly, passionately if it won't resell for much. Alas, it seems that drastic changes in market tastes mean almost everything I love in my parents' art and antique collection is now worth pennies on the dollar. Some things are practically worthless as compared to the purchase price.

That's made it hard to know what to give up, particularly as it's not cheap to lug things around the country by freight or to keep large storage units in different cities, particularly if I achieve my goal of moving out of Houston.

I've been particularly torn about this bronze abstract art sculpture of my mother's that I've loved since childhood & that immediately takes me back to happier times and to her. It's indelibly a part of my life, as much as my DNA. It weighs a ton, so that's not great from a shipping perspective & it turns out that it's resale value is practically nil, to all intents and purposes. Its sale isn't going to help pay the mortgage so I decided to say to help with it, I'm keeping it regardless. It's part of my life history. I can't sell it. It's family & it's stunning when its copper is cleaned & glowing rose-gold. My parents will be with me when I see it.
