A reminder on International Day of Older Persons: Older people now make up 5x as much of the prison population as they did 3 decades ago. Turning prisons into “makeshift nursing homes” is one of the nation’s most wasteful, morally bankrupt experiments to date.
Bar graph showing that in 2021, 15% of people in prison were 55+, a 5x increase from 1991.

Agree, but don't even give them the cover of negligence. I'd like to see a proactive case made that OpenAI execs intentionally ignored their employees because they wanted the AI model to hack other companies. The whole point was to hijack the news cycle to promote the "rogue AI" fantasy.

Correct. AI is programmed, just not in the direct sense. The idea of "training" and "learning" algorithms is misappropriated and aspirational terminology. Under the hood, "training" is just having the computer approximate the desired program via tons of guess-check-adjust calculations.

If we want to address the extreme disparity between the highest and lowest paid people at a corporation, then we should add a tax on the standard deviation of total employee compensation. Or, better yet, the variance. Effect: The more equal the compensation, the lower the tax.
