JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 51mI don't cook, I only have a microwave for ready meals. But I've got it on the small table to air dry & it seems to be ok🤞 000
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 2hI'd actually bought a new phone to replace it as it's got v slow & not holding battery charge, but I'm slowly getting used to the new one & setting it up & not ready to swap over yet. I'm not good with change 🙄 And useful to keep the old one as a spare. Hopefully it'll be ok🤞 020
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 2hTy, it seems to be ok. It was only submerged for a couple of seconds & I towel dried it immediately. It had a sturdy case on it so the only water ingress wd HV been through the charging port & speakers. 1 110
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 4hJust dropped my phone in dog's water bowl 🙄 Fished it straight out & dried it off with towel, seems to be ok. Any advice what to do? I don't have any rice. No radiators, just a plug in small oil filled radiator. It's grey & cloudy, no sunshine. It's possible water is still in the charging port. 242
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 7h0715h pre dawn sky. Sunrise, almost exactly due East, getting rapidly & obviously later & further southward every day. 13C this morning but still warm enough (18C) during the day for sandals. The dread of Xmas & reminder of my lonely lack of connection with others getting stronger every day. 0150

JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Leading by example, eh? In most jobs, this kind of behaviour would result in disciplinary action. 010
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Admittedly it's pretty & safer at night but £ would be better spent dealing with litter & fly tipping. 010
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Likely to be psychological & trust issues too. Give it time, mix the human things he likes with dog food & v slowly (over weeks/months) phase out the human food. Try the Premack principle ie you can have pudding (human foods he likes) if you eat your veg (dog food), start small, reward big. 120
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Was he a street dog? They will usually eat anything, edible or not! Keep an eye on it, make a diary of what he eats when & his bowel habits in case there's an internal problem. Try enhancing his regular food with some sardines & PB (both smell strong) to encourage him to eat. He's very cute 😍 120
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Yes, he's still very much enjoying life most of the time. He's blissfully unaware of his own fragility. But it's v hard. I'm tied to him 24/7 now as he gets so distressed if left alone. And v difficult in the flat. He wet his bed last night & peed on carpet just now, I'm spending hours cleaning. 010
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Beach day! Dogs now allowed on again till next Spring. I didn't think the dog would still be around to go on our local beach again. A lovely warm sunny day, just like being on holiday again. We both paddled, the water was lovely, not cold. 3120

JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 01/10/20261 Oct, how did that happen? I'm going to deliberately breach winter dress order & continue wearing sandals as I cant face the additional brain demands & time cost of having to organise socks (2 prs, without seams) & boots. Luckily it's mild, dry & sun is out today & the beach is open to dogs now. 190
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 30/09/2026High drama happening above the US. Great account to follow. Some cracking messages. 010
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Hey folks, I usually forget about #madskychat but tonight I've even remembered to add the hashtag! Hope all doing ok. Here's my old boy still enjoying life yesterday, he'll be 15 in Jan altho I don't think he'll see Xmas (spine degeneration & dementia). bsky.app/profile/js2.... 130
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Cue the same illegal sale of cheap vape fluid, as with tobacco. Unregulated, containing god knows what & undoing all the benefit of switching from tobacco to vaping. As ever, all this will do is impact the poorest hardest. 000
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I guess I'm just going to have to get a big vape fluid order in now & stockpile & try to ration it. Which increases the risk of relapsing. My unmedicated ADHD brain absolutely needs the stimulant effect of nicotine & caffeine. 100
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I smoked 40yrs. I quit 2023, had some relapses but smoke free for a year now. Couldnt have done it without vaping. I'm still an addict but my addiction is no longer as harmful. I cd get knock-off baccy £5/pack which lasts 2weeks. I miss the smoking habit. It wouldnt take much to go back to it. 100
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Just had email from the online store I get my vape fluid from. The new vape tax will add an extra £2.20 to a bottle of vape fluid (normally costs £1.80). A bottle lasts about 3 days. Vaping will be just as expensive as tobacco. Eliminates a major motivating factor for quitting smoking😡 111
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Tomoro dogs are allowed on the sandy beach again over the winter, so this might be his last slipway run. He used to do this several times but now once is enough & it's a bit of a struggle. But he still enjoys it. #Staffy #olddog #enjoyinglife 0200
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I have a theory... they're vanlifers, on stealth campervans, the petrol was to light a campfire 😉 131
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Result! Just bagged a knee length down filled coat, as new, with hood, rated to -15C, for £15 (£18.74 incl del) on Vinted. That'll be my dressing gown for in the van. Bring on winter❄️ 060
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 29/09/20260600h, dog is fast asleep, Ive closed bedroom window so cant hear the wind now, made coffee & got into sleeping bag under the (summer) duvet to warm up. 17C in the bedroom. Summer is definitely over. I need to toughen up. Hopefully back in the van tonight 🤞 170
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 29/09/20260530, after lying awake for 2 hrs listening to howling wind & then having had to take the dog out to pee, I've accepted that I'm not going to be getting back to sleep now so kettle on. I already sense that today is not good to be a good day. 191
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Discovered this today in Aldi. Looks interesting. Could be worth stockpiling it if it's ok. 040
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I tried selling on eBay about 15yrs ago, v complicated with listing & sale fees as % & had to weigh & measure parcels & I undersold the postage a few times. Put me off for 99p items. I'll maybe try it again if it's more like Vinted now. 110
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Yes, after watching loads of YouTubes, I now cash out straightway too & screenshot everything. I don't know if I can be bothered with eBay, having to work out fees & postage. Altho I've a couple of things I think would sell better on eBay so I might give it a try. 110
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Ha! Old enough to have loved Peter Sellers as Clouseau when I was a kid. Just about to see if it's as good comedy as I remember. bsky.app/profile/js2.... 020
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Be careful, apparently Vinted doesn't like items listed elsewhere at same time, I think it's in the rules. Been watching YouTube vids, lots of sellers being blocked for petty minor rule breaches. I love spreadsheets so I've made a fab spreadsheet, v pleasing to see my total £ figure increase😁 120
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Over 7wks selling, I'm averaging about £20/wk which I'm quite happy with. And more importantly, I've actually got a bit of space in my wardrobe now. Still a lot to get rid of yet but I'm happy just plodding on doing it whenever I'm at the flat for a few days. I have a system now which helps. 140
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I mostly sell under a fiver but discovered stuff in my wardrobe from my 20s which is now "vintage" & sought after, especially boho hippy stuff. So I've had some good sales & got other stuff to sell that should also do well. I'm enjoying doing it, double bonus of getting £ from decluttering. 080
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I remember that era too! We didn't have a colour TV till I was 11, only 1 TV in the house. As I student I saved my waitressing pay & tips for a small portable B&W for my room & revelled in the luxury of lying in bed watching tv for 1st time. I still remember that feeling! 020
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Celebrating a productive few days listing old clothes on Vinted. Over the weekend I've sold 4 items total £46. Admittedly I've spent 4+hrs washing, taking photos, listing, packaging & taking to locker/PO. So its not going to earn a living but it'll pay for some treats I wouldnt have otherwise. 2120
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026It was lovely this morning. Not seen one so pretty for a while. Sadly it's now grey sky & gloomy, rain forecast later. 020
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I'm noticing the temps dropping daily up here. I'm still in sandals & summer clothes, will have to swop for boots & fleeces soon. Makes it harder in the van, more to carry, more mud, more time consuming. Really not looking forward to winter. 010
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Ok, Ty. I don't have TV licence, haven't watched live TV for a decade so I can't access iPlayer, shame. Don't even have my 15+ yr old TV plugged in! 150
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026I've downloaded the audio books but not listened to them yet. I enjoyed his Hawthorne books. Where can I watch the tv series? 190
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Beautiful dawn, tho chilly 16C in the flat, the coolest it's been in the flat since March April. I need to reacclimatise to the cold. Sunrise is creeping southward daily. 0700, it's still not quite daylight yet. It's going to be a long winter. 7140
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Yeah, it'll be Survival of the most aggressive/Lord of the flies type of situation. Personally I'll take what I can & disappear off out into the wilds. Safety in solitude rather than in numbers. 010
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 26/09/2026What's sad is that within the 1st 24hrs, some ppl are demonstrating aggressive behaviour & stealing from each other. So the biggest threat in an apocalypse is perhaps not a lack of resources, but other ppl. 2 160
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Watching Apocalypse on C4, a survival docu-experiment. Their biggest probs are lack of basic survival skills, teamship & leadership. Anyone with military training could breeze this. Most civvies wd struggle. Moral of the story is that to hungry ppl, Spam is gold. So stockpile Spam. 1 160
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Lovely full moon hanging low above the rooftops at dusk. Looks enormous, is it maybe a Super Moon? In the distance are the hills where I retreat to for peace, away from the madding crowd. I wish I was up there now but I'm grounded due to vehicle problem. 3100
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Grounded at the flat bcos of a problem with the van so another Vinted purchase (£2 & del) for the full set of Pink Panther 🩷 films from my childhood to pass the time after I've finished the Jonathan Creek box set. 170
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I think he's gone back off to sleep. I'm going to risk tiptoeing to the bathroom 🤞 010
JayEsstoo @js2.bsky.social · 23/09/2026*whispers sotto voce... I think he's just woken, I'm pretending to be asleep hoping he'll go back off again. It's like having a young child 🙄 For a deaf dog, he's got amazing sensory perception. I darent move until I hear the rhythmic heavy breathing again. 110
