Tayeb* was just 16 when he fled Sudan and came to the UK seeking safety. When his age was wrongly recorded, he was detained at Harmondsworth IRC and treated as an adult. With support from our Detention Outreach Team, he secured an age assessment and was eventually released into care.

Many of our refugee friends are barred from accessing public funds, leaving them at risk of homelessness. Thanks to the support of The Charles Plater Trust we are working to ensure that more people can access safe and stable housing, helping to rebuild their lives and access further support.

Since "one in, one out" started, JRS UK and @humansforrights.bsky.social have found that at least 141 age-disputed young people have been detained under the scheme. At least 64 of these either have subsequently been found to be children by local authorities or are pending further inquiries
