You'd think having your votes published for the world to see would be motivation to learn the mere basics?

Especially since none of the Yimby groups endorsed 45. Also, I don't understand how you vote Yes on 40 and be undecided about 41 and 42.

Not Marin. Marin towns want 7,000 residents, 10,000 parks and 10 bespoke, curated and carefully selected businesses, along with magically occuring revenue that pays for servcies..

Great article. I'd like to to give a good estimate of tax revenue new residents generate to local officials. They understand that new residents generate revenue, but they don't know how much, and it's hard to compare to the couple million they can extract now with the unknown future revenue.

It's a bad day for an open house, here at the Sausalito Houseboats. The official tide forecast is 5.9 - which is high but not very floody. The Kelvin wave is apparently adding a foot or more to high tides. It's going to be a rough winter. #kingtides

San Rafael has just become the first Marin jurisdiction to seek a pro-housing designation. Hurray!

Jenny Build Housing Silva @jrskis.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
So disappointing. San Rafael has reopened comments by zoom for the first time in years tonight (I guess mandatory now?) and we have a caller saying absolutely vile, hateful comments. They cut off the speaker for inciting violence.

San Rafael City Council. Parents Voices is here, and the stories tenants are paying are horrifying. $4,000+/month for moldy uninhabitable apartments. A family waited months for a hole in the roof to be fixed and had to evacuate because the roof was at risk for collapsing. Note: no rent control here
010
Jenny Build Housing Silva @jrskis.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
In Marin, we have both the weakest rent stabilization in the state and the lowest rate of housing production. Nonexistent rent stabilization did not enable production. It is clear that some rent control policies are very bad. Looking at rent control by type is key.

Not to mention that even the oppressed can false sway to racist ideologies. Many women support patriarchy and believe they are the special one who will be protected. It's a rude surprise to learn you're not special.

My daughter's sorority has a mandatory class on consent. The main question the students asked - where are the fraternities? They were told that the fraternities weren't willing to take the class, so they were only giving it to the soroties. How is this mandatory for the girls but not the boys?

“We really do feel that, outside of that one group, everyone in town believes in this project,” Mayor Max Perrey said. It is a problem that one small group of neighbors with a lot of money can endlessly delay an affordable housing project in Mill Valley. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

Some kids want to play sports! But it's become an environment where either you commit to travel teams when you are 10, or you don't get to play. Lots of families would prefer a middle road, but it doesn't exist in many areas.

I'm curiuos about the reasoning that determines that 7 stories is good and 12 stories a monstrosity. I do advocacy in Marin. There is no building that is too small to be labelled a "monstrosity - it doesn't matter if its 250 units or 3 units - it's too dense and an affront to the neighborhood.

My 23 year old on why GenZ drinks so much less than GenX. (1) money. it's $$$. (2) panopticon. they are surveilled 100% of the time. Any mistakes are captured for life. (3) striver/wellness - they must optimize for productivity. I'm glad the kids drink less but 2 & 3 are sad ways to live.

Saw my first WNBA game last night. Great game. And, as an elder GenX, it was a revelation to hear a stadium of people going wild for women playing ball. The energy was outstanding. Little boys totally entranced and cheering. It was thrilling. We've come a long way.

Access is not an issue. When I talk to Nordstrom, they tell me to talk to the carrier. But there is no way to talk to the carrier. They said they'll send an email to the carrier. That has done no good. I've now spent several hours trying to get this cheap set of PJs delivered.

Jenny Build Housing Silva @jrskis.bsky.social · 05/08/2026
I am now seriously questioning whether I will shop at Nordstrom's again. Not ony are they using a terrible AI customer service, but they've outsourced their delivery to Tforce, which is a terrible carrier. For the last 3 days, they've failed to deliver due to "no access".

What actual evidence is there for a decrease in the "taste for independence" other than some ancedotes? Rent is claimed to be marginal, but the authors look at national averages, not where jobs are. My ancedotal experience is that grads would rather live on their own, if they could afford it.
020
Jenny Build Housing Silva @jrskis.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
Grads living at home post grad. is a reduction in household formation = a reduction in household supply, suggesting that rents would be increasing even faster, if kids could move out on their own. Funny, the authors quickly credit a decrease in the "taste for independence" rather than rents.
161
Jenny Build Housing Silva @jrskis.bsky.social · 03/08/2026
I'm surprised that documented, widespread rent increases are so quickly dismissed. The paper's data doesn't show this. Further, the use of a country-wide average, rather than a rent number that reflects where job opportunities for college grads are, would understate the impact of rents.

I don't think that's how it works. Algorithms just try to squeeze what they can. Uber and Lyft charging more when batteries are low isn't correlated with income. And tipping does not make people with more money pay more. Some wealthy people are terrible tippers.

Yes - but we didn't have the orange skies in Marin until 2020. We had 5 bad years starting in 2017. I remember because my step-daughter had to leave school in Napa due to the wildfires. Every year after, my kids had at least one day off due to smoke - I don't think they had any before 2017.
