Our neighbor Elvira told us this barn predated our 1880s house. Another friend, a barn hobbyist (yes that’s a thing) insisted it had to be a 20th century build based on how the lumber was milled. Today, desquirrelling, I discovered that Elivra is right

When I took over EPOCH four years ago I made a submittable account for it and did a series of test subs from my own account to make sure everything was working right...blank documents...I forgot that I made up titles for all of them

Today I need to do some squirrelproofing…at first I didn’t understand how squirrels ended up in the walls…they seemed so well sealed…then I noticed that the OG builders ran out of flashing and, uh, never bought more I guess. Squirrels stole the insulation for a nest. Yuck
Place in the loft where the flashing ran outSquirrel-purloined fiberglas in the eaves

Ok I am declaring this basically done for now…added some bracing here and there, and this place to lean guitars. Will caulk, fill, and sand over the next few weeks, and maybe add a little door to conceal the breaker box
Fully framed out wooden bookcaseSlotted built in guitar stand thing with a stratocaster parked in it

Almost done with the basic framing here I think…special areas for records, cds, cassettes, and various musical instruments…hifi shelf lower middle…lower right will be a built-in stand for several guitars, I need to research the best way to do that. Next task is squirrelproofing…boring

Today’s task was to get started on a bookcase, once I confirmed its supporting wall was squirrel-free. There will be many bespoke compartments for various items, and it is also intended as a sound diffuser. Gotta stop now but will resume after sukkot, the holiday where you construct an outbuilding!

Here is what it looks like now, as I dismantle a wall so that a contractor can install a window. Oh dear. Squirrels have squashed the insulation

This keeps getting reposted into my feed and I am baffled. These people don’t exist. If you like DP at all you know she’s one of the greatest singers ever. This framing of “the morons who didn’t like dolly correctly will be humiliated by the knowledge I have always had” is pointless and embarrassing
Post reading “Lotta people this weekend are gonna have a karaoke mic in their hand when they find out that Dolly was a SINGER singer and even the songs she made sound easy are very hard. Keep your head on a swivel.”

Well here's something I'd like to give a listen to
1993–present: legal entanglement, return and breakup
Strike period
In 1993, Partridge conceived XTC's next project to be an album of bubblegum pop songs disguising itself as a retrospective compilation featuring 12 different groups from the early 1970s. The lyrics were also heavily sexual, with song titles such as "Lolly (Suck It and See)" and "Visit to the Doctor". Partridge recalled playing some demos for Virgin agents, and compared their reaction to the "Springtime for Hitler" scene from the 1967 film The Producers. The label rejected his idea.[32] Virgin denied Partridge's requests to renegotiate or revoke XTC's contract.[14] Paul Kinder believed that the label and the group were "poles apart" and that "the contract was so old it got to the point where Andy wanted the moon and Virgin weren't prepared to give it him."[14]

This chart seems to be going around again as evidence of a kind of cruel, cynical NIMBYism, and I always feel compelled when I see it to push back. Yes, we should have more (esp. small) manufacturing here, and it is amazing that 1 in 5 working Americans want to do it!! That's 4 million people!

Side note, I must praise this Ithaca Times reporter for determining who in our community is most committed to keeping cats healthy and asking him what he thought about the cat murders. He lowkey thinks they're bad
Bruce Kornreich, director of the Cornell Feline Health Center, said he was very concerned and disturbed when he heard the news.

“It’s a sad thing, you know, and it’s just sort of a heinous act to do this,” Kornreich said.

He also did this one, The Innocent Eye Test, which you have probably seen at the Met www.metmuseum.org/art/collecti...
From the Met's description: "In this wry painting, a cow stands in front of Paulus Potter’s The Young Bull, 1647, now at the Mauritshuis, The Hague, while the human experts wonder if the cow can distinguish artifice from reality."

I just spent half an hour trying to figure out who painted one of my favorite paintings, which I saw at some exhibition years ago and am always reminded of by various other artworks and life experiences, and I figured it out and here it is, Action Painting (1981) by Mark Tansey
