Lotta people out there acting like "gatekeeping" means "you have to learn it." Art, programming, writing, etc are skills. They have to be learned. You not being able to do something because you haven't learned how to do it isn't those people gatekeeping something from you, you just haven't learned.

Birdo is my favorite Mario character. When I first saw her in Super Mario 2 as a kid she terrified me. She looked strange and was hard for me to defeat. Then when I next saw her in Wario's Woods she was like a savior angel character and I had to accept this conflict of emotions when seeing her. A+

i recommend installing GameMaker (it's free) and checking out the tutorials on YouTube. The GameMaker YouTube channel has a tutorial for a super basic top down RPG and there's more advanced ones too. if you like programming even a little bit, it's fun to learn, very beginner friendly

When I'm trying to get a job I do sometimes regret nuking my twitter. I mean when I killed it it was entirely frogs in hats, but I have learned that follower counts on social media are important to companies, so just having that 100k+ number sitting there could help. I hate this world sometimes.

The difference between picking up a rock in a game with emergent gameplay and picking up a rock in a Rockstar game

- in spelunky, you can throw rocks to hit stuff. you can also set off an explosive to ricochet it, or use the rock to set off traps, or dislodge or trigger something else
etc etc
- the rock has multiple uses

- If I ain't got a weapon

- in grand theft auto (or any rockstar game) the game would:
- tell you to pick up the rock as an objective (mark it on your map)
- tell you to throw it at an enemy to kill him (he is right in front of you)
- if you miss, you fail the mission
- if you take too long to pick up the rock, you fail the mission
- if you use any other method to kill the enemy, you fail the mission

- also, that is the only place where youll get to use a rock and you can never use it anywhere else because the programmers never considered it

- if you tried to get a different rock, it's not interactible
