I saw someone with wheels like this on the way to work the other morning, it was a cheerful addition to the ride.

"If you were to completely cancel and refund all of the money spent on bike lanes, even in the last 10 years in the city of Calgary, you wouldn't even barely be able to afford just one single interchange that's built in the suburbs," -Mayor Farkas @jeromyyyc.bsky.social #yycbike #Calgary

Councillor wants Calgary to pause new bike lanes ahead of upcoming provincial legislation | CBC News
With the province expected to take more authority over municipal bike lanes in the months ahead, one Calgary councillor wants the city to pause any new bike lane projects in the meantime.

Apologies to the rider on the fancy carbon bike stuck behind my fat ass on the pathway by Edworthy. You went by so fast I didn't have a chance to mention the bylaw officer with a radar gun just ahead. But you guys got to chat, so I guess it all worked out. 😁 #yycbike

For riding for transportation, having an ebike option can be a tipping factor for getting out in less than ideal weather.

www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... Interesting article on the impact of ebike incentives - table 3 sums up a lot of my perceptions: parking and theft are negatives, and weather is neutral.

It was a while back, and my memory is a bit fuzzy. But based on reading I've done since then the whole thing vibes a lot like John Forester vehicular cycling dogma.

Am I a bad person for riding my bike to work on World Car Free day and being a bit smug listening to my coworkers complaining about how horrible traffic was this morning?

This morning's minor happiness - for the first time since he injured his back the older dog had a "normal" morning. Woke up with the other pup for a dogpile on dad with scritches and kisses, headed outside with no assistance for bathroom break, and ate his whole breakfast.

Thousand helmets have a purpose built hole for threading a lock through. That said, I sometimes make a point of carrying my helmet with me so a business knows that I arrived by bike. Every little bit helps in "normalizing" active transportation.

Honestly, that is a lot better than what they had before. I shop there every so often and I've only ever seen one other bike. Co-op in Oakridge a bit further out has a decent 4-5 spots.

Thanks! I need to go home that way tonight for an errand. I've noticed a couple of sketchy situations the last couple days. The bike path along Heritage between 14th and MacLeod is best avoided due to curb replacement and re-paving

Yay - ran a few errands and still beat the rain getting home Meh - had someone yell "get a car" at me for the first time in forever. Like dude, I am on your precious road so I can pick up medicine for my sick dog. Chill out.

Update: someone in a group chat found it
On the left side is a news article about a Data Center CEO getting ran out of Salem by local community.

On the right side is a photo of a small guillotine being transported by a cargo bike.

This continues to grind on me. They had a valet a few summers ago in an empty storefront on Stephen Ave. It seemed somewhat popular, there was talk of it continuing and then poof. Nothing. I visit places like Kelowna and Victoria that have municipal run valets where people want to be. Maddening

Working from home today, and there is a plumbing van across the street that has been idling for half an hour. The engine fan kicks on and off every fifteen seconds. I know I could close my window but it is delightfully cool still and I am trying to air our non-AC house out before it warms up.

Like stopping on a major road to let me turn left even though I in no way have the right of way. Or giving me a nice wide pass in the next lane and then cutting right in front of me to be ahead at a red light.

Decided to take the shorter route on roads to work this morning after months of taking the longer route on the pathways. And that was about enough of that. The drivers were acting weird, I don't need that stress. Back to the extra 10 mins.

No idea, they cleanly cut the pavement and removed a few sections. Gravel was about 2-3 inches deep. It looked like it was going to be repaved

@calgaryherald.com this column could have been a lot shorter had Mr Braid stopped at condemning the bad driver, but he had to create a pedestrian strawman to ensure the blame was spread around. Just brutal. calgaryherald.com/opinion/colu...

They have been advertising all sorts of blowout pricing the last couple of weeks. Our youngest, who typically goes to this festival, passed this year early because the lineup was meh. Plus it was moved closer to Stampede, which increased competition for the same dollars.

It's one of many things I am happy to see Mayor Farkas doing - he uses transit and active transportation on a regular basis to maintain some perspective on those modes. I emailed my councillor about riding to city hall - crickets.

Because of this we had to drive across the city twice in rush hour - I don't know how people do that. I live in this weird little bubble of work/shopping/entertainment being close enough that I don't deal with traffic so I forget what it's like.
