Currently caught between "wow cloud outages remind me I don't own anything" and "I listen to too much new music to move away from streaming"

Why is it usually so hard for me to beat my first blind run score on a Beat Saber map?

The new Android desktop mode is *very* beta. It's forcing me to use my 1440p monitor at 1080p so everything is blurry. Locking my phone also locks the desktop. And I found a few keyboard shortcuts that just immediately crash the launcher. But it's pretty interesting and has potential!

Installing today's new Android 16 beta release right now. I'm curious how the new desktop mode works.

The Apple redesign for the most part looked nice in the presentation, but the more real world screenshots I see the more I'm convinced so many parts of it are just fundamentally terrible ideas from a UX and readability perspective. Hopefully it's in a much better state by the time the stable […]

The Apple redesign generally looks pretty good but I think someone needs to remind them that notifications are meant to be *read*.

An iOS 26 screenshot of the lock screen. All the notifications are transparent and difficult to read.

Apple resurrecting the Windows 7 design is a pleasant surprise.

Somebody please tell Eugen to add HDR support to the apps so I can flashbang people with custom emojis.

My main takeaway from the Ballerina John Wick movie is that grenades are versatile tools with lots of creative uses.

I've been playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 (the newer one) for the first time this week and it's actually a really good game? I don't know what happened to cause such a huge spike in the player count recently but I'm loving it.

Looking forward to all the dumb Half-Life 3 hype during Summer Game Fest next week. Yeah there's a 99% chance nothing happens, but there's still something so nostalgic about the community hyping itself up again.

The latest Android 16 beta with all the new design changes is feeling pretty slick! I got it installed today and so far my favorite part is the new wallpaper shape effects.

Some more White House photos. This was a super neat tour.

A photo taken in the main entrance room of the White House. An old piano sits in front of a mirror and a portrait of Obama.

An ornate circular room decorated in blue. Paintings of former US presidents hang on the walls. A plaque says its name is the Blue Room.

A photo looking out onto the White House south lawn. The Lincoln Memorial is visible in the distance.

[US politics] This is a photo from my tour of the White House.

Three framed portraits hang on a beige wall. On the left is a traditional oil painting of first lady Laura Bush. The center artwork is a stylized painting of Donald Trump's face overlaid with the American flag. On the right is a formal portrait of Hillary Clinton standing next to a table and chair, smiling and dressed in a black suit. The left and right portraits are displayed in ornate gold frames.

I don't have it yet but the new material design for Android is growing on me. I might give the beta a try next week if I don't hear of any major issues with it until then. The last time I ran a beta OS on my phone was for Android 12!

If you're reading this then there's a good chance you'd enjoy Replicube. store.steampowered.com/app/3401490/… It's a bit like shader programming in that you have to find a way to replicate the model you're shown by writing code that will be run once for every voxel. It's oddly […]

@jw I had a similar feeling when going back to one of the old Fallouts. Bethesda games and especially Skyrim were really influential when they came out, but the industry has had so long to iterate on the open world RPG formula now that I'm starting to wonder if some of these older games are […]

Phone home screen screenshot consisting of white text on a black background. Today's date is at the top just below the status bar. Four app names are in the center: Signal, Spotify, Vivaldi, and Camera.

Half-Life 3 though? I'm officially entering red alert mode because I'm starting to think it could be announced very soon. In any case, the hype has been a good excuse to set up my own ntfy.sh server at least.

It's weird. I played GTA 5 last year. Really liked it. But I'm kind of indifferent on the GTA 6 hype? It looks really cool but I'll play it just whenever I get to it.

I'm trying to look at work more positively today. For example, our morning stand up, which I would normally say is stupidly long and pointless, is actually great because it's extra time to browse job listings and fill out applications.

Turns out that when people talk about increased load when adding fediverse relays, they're not just talking about processing power. Media storage is already down by 15 GB since I disabled the relay this instance was connected to four days ago, and that'll still continue to drop the next few days.
