My beef is with the idea that higher pay equals aspiration, and therefore - by implication - lower pay means lower aspiration. Just aspire more and you too can have a not-so-lavish-but-a-but-more-lavish pay packet, it's just your lack of aspiration that's the problem.

This may be hard work (about 50% of status/income comes from parental status/income, the rest unexplained - presumably a combination of work, luck etc.), but even so, the cookies weren't created by the owner sitting around throwing capital at the ingredients and hoping they'd assemble themselves

Their argument being that the cookie-rich fella owns the oven and put up the capital for the ingredients etc., without him, no one would have cookies. It's a tawdry argument, it ignores the basic injustice "baked" into the system - why is he the one with the capital in the first place?

To be fair to Jim Ratcliffe, he campaigned for the UK to leave Europe, then left the UK to live in Europe. He said the UK had been "colonised by immigrants" then became an immigrant in Monaco. He said taxes are too high, but doesn't pay tax. He is at least consistent in his hypocrisy.

When manager after manager fail at a club, I begin to wonder if the manager is the problem. Look at clubs like Brighton and Brentford who have lost good managers but continued to thrive. Bodes well that Carrick's eventual inevitable sacking won't solve the problem.

Good point. I think his position that he doesn't want to disappoint fans or those relying on his gigs for employment is pragmatic and I'm sure it's sincere, but appeasing extremists for the sake of short-term pragmatism doesn't always go well.

The issue in this case isn't an overall solution, it's Israel's current actions in Gaza (and the West Bank) - 7 Oct was horrific, an unimaginable act of terror, but Israel's response has eclipsed it by some margin.
