iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Acted as one of the recorded models for the game's rotoscoped animation. Composed the music. Everyone could use someone that supportive.

The thing I was most impressed by, really, was Francis Mechner as father to game creator Jordan Mechner. Didn't object to him blowing off studies to put more time into his passion. Didn't care about video games but would help in brainstorming concepts.

Like they spend dozens of minutes talking about how it was the first game to use musical motifs for its three major characters. Which amounts to each one getting a several second jingle in a game with maybe a minute of music total.

It didn't really convince me of the greatness of Karateka, though. It would talk about the things it was one of the first games to do, but everything was evolving so fast back then they basically all feel like things that would've happened soon anyway.

Finally got around to checking out The Making of Karateka. First, the interactive documentary format is pretty great. Watch some video talking about events. Browse correspondence or design docs of the time. Then play the version of the game that existed that month.

But he does so by rejecting the UN definition.

Going to call this second batch of banana pumpkin muffins a half success.

Muffins in muffin tin, having survived the trip from oven to stovetop.

Muffin and muffin lining crashed in the oven, having not survived the trip.

Considering how everything is scaled down, I was curious if the mountains in Skyrim would actually be mountains. Apparently the in-game height of the tallest mountain is 766 meters, and 600 meters is a common cutoff for what's considered a mountain, so there's at least _a_ mountain.

A rare case where I'm not sure if a movie would go into the "Jackie Chan" or "It's Not Jackie Chan" list.

Cover image for "Jackie Chan presents Amnesia", a remake of a Jackie Chan film not starring Jackie Chan.

Satisfying my own curiosity, in the last few weeks I've taken chip-adjacent snacks and seen what kind of volume 200 calories looks like. I've now displayed them with bare-bones 1990s era HTML. jjsl.one/temp/200calo...

Used a larger potato to get larger diameter slices, but that just gave them more room to fall over on each other and become hard to remove. If these things were actually popular, maybe someone would make a version with the separators another centimeter or two taller.

Would a poifect cake really be solid enough to hold in two hands without falling apart?

Right. Before this were they closing in time to make the early bird dinner?

Now to check in with the tens of millions who populated the Americas pre-European arrival!

It's 1992, guys, 2 meg is no longer very massive.

"Our adaptation is unfulfilling enough that getting the arcade version would be a big win!"

Finding an audience was as elusive as Robert Denby.

When I was a little kid my mom refused to let me watch full house and I assumed it had to be risqué or adult oriented in some way. I would secretly watch it and be like “this is so corny why won’t she let me watch this” and then she admitted she just thought the show sucked and hated John Stamos

I think that was it. I know it's getting time to wrap things up for SNW original characters, but that was the lowest-key exit in the history of the franchise. But I guess for such a chill character, that might fit better than something more dramatic.
