Just some character sketches for an idea that's been rattling around in my noggin for a bit. Too many ideas, not enough time. Anyone else got that problem? #kidlit #kidlitart #kidlitartist

Q1: At this point it seems I get stuck on the writing for every single pitch I work on. I think part of the problem is overthinking the overall plot, but at least bouncing ideas off fellow graphic novel peeps in critique groups has helped. #kidlitart

Q3: Do something else for a bit. Something not even related to the task at hand. I find it helps clear the mind to step away and come back with fresh eyes.

Joshua Chennault @joshuachennault.com · 31/07/2026

Q2: The writing part. I have ideas aplenty, and do decent with individual scenes, but bring it all together seems a damn near impossible task for me. #kidlitart

Some character art for Jacqueline Hyde, the main character from my #kidlit middle grade horror #graphicnovel WIP tentatively titled LET ME OUT. Think Kayla Millers Click series smashing into Goosebumps. Also features 'Other Jackie.' #BluePitHype #Comics

13-year-old Jacqueline Hyde looking confident and content, wearing magenta shorts and a goldenrod top. Accompanying description text explains her perfectly crafted school life and how she is a high-strung control freak. Her dormant parasitic twin looks on with disgust, contemplating how it will get out after a lifetime of being suppressed.

Character design sketch sheet for Jacqueline Hyde exploring a multitude of expressions, from happy, to frightened, to scared, to sad.

In a dark nighttime hallway with huge arched windows, a girl and a werewolf (also a girl) are sneaking around. Both are wearing school uniforms, although the werewolf's has ripped a bit from her transformation. She has just knocked over a small table and broken a vase and the girl is shushing her. Through one of the large windows, we see more school buildings and a full moon.

BLACK MIRROR × SEVERANCE × THE GOOD PLACE Having a happy death is a luxury service for the rich and Wren is the rising top salesman—until a cynical coworker and a depressed billionaire force him to rethink it all in a world where even your last smile has a price tag. #GhostPit #A #DS #SF #W

Made from non-AI free stock images.

This image is a book cover design for a novel titled "Happy Death Inc." by B. Van Bodegom. The cover is divided into three distinct horizontal sections:

1. Top Section: Features a cartoonish blue sky with white clouds and a bright sun. At the top, a tagline reads:
"How much would you pay to die with a smile?"
The word "HAPPY" appears in large, playful, hand-drawn-style font, partially overlapping the sky background.

2. Middle Section: A photograph of a deceased man in a suit, lying in a casket. He has an exaggerated smile on his face, almost unnaturally wide and clean, suggesting artificial enhancement or post-mortem alteration. Overlaid on this image is the word "DEATH" in the same large font as the previous word.

3. Bottom Section: A cartoon city skyline in pastel tones, similar in style to the top sky background. The word "INC." is overlaid prominently in the same large font. At the very bottom, in smaller capital letters, it says:
"A Novel by B VAN BODEGOM"
