(3/3) - In The Mouth of Madness is a powerhouse of fear and insanity in a world consumed by chaos.

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 11h

(2/3) - It stars the amazing Sam Neil (RIP Sam) and features a very interesting, and by his standards underrated, supporting role by Charlton Heston. It also features two of my favorite character actors, David Warner and John Glover.

(1/3) - Do you read Sutter Cane? If you haven't guessed already, the 14th movie of the 31 Movies in 31 Days Horror Movie Halloween Marathon is the John Carpenter Classic, In The Mouth of Madness. Madness is the best Lovecraft movie ever made, even though it's not directly tied to Lovecraft's work.

Can you figure out what horror movie Josh is watching today? Here's a hint. Do you read Sutter Cane?

(5/5) = That one can be a little harder to find. Is Manos scary? No. Is it well made? No, not in the least. Is it fun? Oh my gods, yes!

(4/5) = and Torgo, the most lovable henchman ever to grace the screen. If we decide to watch Manos: The Hands of Fate, I suggest you watch either of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 versions. The RIFF Trax version. Or the cinematic Titanic version.

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 14/10/2026

(3/6) - I went with Manos: The Hands of Fate! Trying to describe this movie as pointless. All you need to know is that there is an irritating family, a harem of captured women, a giant dog led around by a weird man in a black-and-red cloak,

100

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 14/10/2026

(2/5) - I just mean a really bad movie. The acting, the costuming, the direction, and the sound design are just all atrocious to the point of being hysterical. I could have picked a film like Robot Monster or Plan 9 from Outer Space, but in the end I went with my favorite horrible movies!

(1/5) = Today is October 13th, the 13th day of the 31 Horror Movie, in the 31 Days Halloween Marathon. 13... BOOOOOO! Today I decided to go with the classic bad horror movie. And I don't mean bad in terms of bad CGI, bad reception by the audience, or bad box office.

Alright, It's confession time. And this is a big one. I have recently become addicted to short-episode streaming mini-dramas. They're all some kind of romance or erotica, or both at the same time. So... yeah.

(3/3) - and downright amazing. It represents the best, in my opinion, of what British horror could produce in the 1960s and 1970s. If you've never seen it before and if the idea of a Victorian Lovecraftian train movie appeals to you, wow, check it out.

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

(2/3) - Horror Express is about a train crossing Siberia carrying the body of a several-million-year-old creature with distinct Lovecraftian overtones. Starring Sir Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Tully Savalas, this movie is scary, funny (with Tully, you have to have the funny),

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

(1/3) - It's the 12th day of the 31 Horror Movies in 31 Days Halloween Marathon, and our offering today is the British classic Horror Express. This is my second favorite horror movie of all time. It falls just below the original Dawn of the Dead.

(4/4) - And remember, "They're coming to get you, Barbara. They're horny, Barbara. They've been dead a long time!" - Johnny

000

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

(3/4) - the movie has a solid bedrock to build from. The effects are top-notch, of course they are with Savini at the helm, and the story is tight and intense. I love this movie as much as the original, and I'm not afraid to admit it.

100

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 12/10/2026

(2/4) - the 1990 version takes what worked in the original and improves on it. With the direction of the legend Tom Savini, the casting of Tony Todd as Ben, Patricia Tallman as a stronger version of Barbara, and Bill Moseley as Johnny, along with a stellar supporting cast of players,

(1/4) - Day 11 of the 31 Horror Movies in 31 Days Halloween Marathon brings us to one of the horror remakes of all time. I am talking about Night of The Living Dead (1990). While the original Night of the Living Dead is the progenitor of the zombie drama,

So, should I watch the new Carrie TV show? Bear in mind that the OG Brian De Palma version is one of my top 20 horror movies, and I really like the 2013 version with Chloe Grace Moretz.

(3/3) - It has some really creepy scenes, too. The one with the little springs comes to mind. So, Freddy's Revenge? It's the odd duck of the series, but it's a lot of fun.

010

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 11/10/2026

(2/3) - Once you know that, or if you must go in cold, it's quickly apparent why. Beyond that, Freddy's Revenge is a solid installment in the series. The performances are acceptable (although Robert Rusler, as Grady, is fantastic), the effects are good, and the kills are fun.

(1/3) - We are a third of the way (more or less) into the 31 Horror Movies in 31 Days Halloween Marathon! Our 10th offering to the Goddess of Horror (I call her Mistress Nightmaria) is A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge. Among fans, this movie is also known as "The gay one."

(4/4) - If you don't mind that and you enjoy zombie movies, I highly recommend it. But seriously, I hate nihilism.

000

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

(3/4) - Set in a London television studio, which I'm sure is supposed to be the BBC, the action is mostly tight and focused. Then, as we approach the wrap-up, it does the one thing I hate in a horror movie. It gave me a nihilistic ending.

100

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

(2/4) - I swear, I did my due diligence. I checked the reviews and ratings, and they all screamed "solid B movie." I dove in, and for eight tenths of the run, I was very happy. A virus, purposely released to control the population, takes down the world in a day.

100

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 10/10/2026

(1/4) - I had very high hopes for the second offering of the 9th day of the 31 Horror Movies (minimum) in the 31 Days Halloween Marathon. I'm serious, high hopes. The movie is a 2017 British flick named Dawning of the Dead.

100

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

(3/3) - Throw in the zombie factor, and it's easy to see why I love it so much. The movie has hatred, violence, kindness, grief, and the saddest conclusion you can imagine. Even if it all happens before the last scene.

000

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

(1/2) - Now on to today's offering. We are watching another old favorite of mine, Savageland. Detailing the conviction and education of an undocumented man in Arizona after his entire town is slaughtered, Savageland is everything a mockumentary should be.

100

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

(1/3) - Wow! We've already reached day 9 of the 31 Horror Movies in 31 Days Halloween Marathon. The time is spiraling out way too fast. I can, and do, watch hundreds (maybe) of horror movies a year, but there's something about October that makes them ever so much better.

110

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

(4/4) - When do we go to just watching men, women, and children be shot in the back of the head, kneeling and begging, Chinese style? We're at a turning point in the road, people. We're careening toward the cliff, and no one is hitting the brakes. I weep for what we've lost.

000

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

(3/4) - Do we have picnics at the gallows and take pieces of the dead home as souvenirs after the victims are lynched? Do we sell tickets to execution arenas and watch a dozen murders in one night?

100

Josh Hilden @joshhilden.bsky.social · 09/10/2026

(2/4) - If we normalize public state executions again, the decay of our nation will be complete. Letting the next generation of Americans become desensitized to murder (killing, whether legalized or not, is murder) and actually have it normalized is sickening. What comes next?
