You’re probably misinterpreting what side of this argument I’m on. I’m very pro-Pettersson and think he should/will be good again. But if he’s in the lineup he needs to provide a certain amount to this team, otherwise just sit and rest if it’s that bad.

Just to add - I have no idea if he is dealing with an injury or the severity of it. But it is the only thing that logically adds up to me. Players don’t just get bad at 26 years old.

Because everyone wants more EP40 takes: Multiple things can be true. 1. He’s dealing with an injury that hampered his offseason and continues to through the season. 2. That injury won’t get better by taking time off. 3. He should be better than he’s been if he’s playing.

A lot of this is projection, but it’s nice to think that the #Canucks defence by the end of next season could be a mix of: Hughes-Hronek Metey-Willander D Petey-Myers with a decent amount of money left to try to upgrade the forward group.

Really hard to argue that D-Petey shouldn’t get an extended look with how well he’s played in his first three games. Also becoming much more difficult to see how Carson Soucy at 3.25 makes sense for this team if he keeps playing how he has so far this season.

Depends on the guy, some don’t want the hassle of free agency if they get a good enough offer before then. I assume the relationship with Rutherford and Allvin is there and that they’re confident they can extend him before he hits free agency.

I just don’t get why people think a legit top-4 defenceman costs anything less than a 1st rounder. I can get on board with the price being too high if Pettersson is just a rental, but I would be very surprised if he is just a rental

Different types of players but I think they’re going to have similar impacts. It’s going to be the same “oh this is what a legit top-4 Defenceman looks like” feeling Hronek also had the benefit of playing PP1 in Detroit, which inflated his point totals.

I think he is a Hronek tbh. I do agree they need to extend him for it to be truly worth it, not high on it if they pay that price for a rental.
