Canucks decided they were gonna make sure Lankinen was worth the contract with the way they’ve played this period

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 20/02/2025

Because everyone wants more EP40 takes: Multiple things can be true. 1. He’s dealing with an injury that hampered his offseason and continues to through the season. 2. That injury won’t get better by taking time off. 3. He should be better than he’s been if he’s playing.

From a rooting perspective it’s actually wildly clutch that Quinn Hughes isn’t playing and JT Miller was traded. Just unconditional American hate.

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 06/02/2025

A lot of this is projection, but it’s nice to think that the #Canucks defence by the end of next season could be a mix of: Hughes-Hronek Metey-Willander D Petey-Myers with a decent amount of money left to try to upgrade the forward group.

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 05/02/2025

Most encouraging part of tonight’s game - not going into a shell with the lead. Power play helped but they were pushing before then too. Also, Demko.

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 05/02/2025

Penalties tonight Makar: 1 Hughes: 0 I think it’s clear who deserves the Norris

0130

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 05/02/2025

I have no idea how Myers ended up in the box but he does usually find his way there so I guess that’s fair

0130

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 05/02/2025

Makar just tried to a Quinn-esque walk along the blueline and immediately gave the puck away. Hughes would never.

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 05/02/2025

Drew O’Connor being incredibly fast on the forecheck created that Filip Chytil chance. Very nice to see speed up front for the Canucks

0160

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 05/02/2025

Very meh first period but the Canucks have woken up for the second

0130

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 03/02/2025

Really hard to argue that D-Petey shouldn’t get an extended look with how well he’s played in his first three games. Also becoming much more difficult to see how Carson Soucy at 3.25 makes sense for this team if he keeps playing how he has so far this season.

2140

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 03/02/2025

Maybe Chytil was also just in need of a fresh start

090

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 03/02/2025

If each Pettersson scores does that count as a hat trick?

2152

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 01/02/2025

I just don’t get why people think a legit top-4 defenceman costs anything less than a 1st rounder. I can get on board with the price being too high if Pettersson is just a rental, but I would be very surprised if he is just a rental

2120

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 01/02/2025

So I see we’re going to have the same discourse we did when the Canucks traded for Hronek. The Rangers are going to make the playoffs. The pick is going to be in the late teens. Don’t fall in love with what something could be.

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 01/02/2025

Marcus Pettersson is a more than capable 2nd pairing defenceman. Plays 22 minutes a night, decent amount on the PK

Updated look at assets the #Canucks have moved ONLY VIA TRADE since Allvin and co. took over

151

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 01/02/2025

I don’t doubt the Canucks will flip one of their 1sts, but I do wonder which one. More fun outcome would be trading their own and holding on to the Rangers pick.

0110

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 30/01/2025

Based on the precedent from the Höglander penalty the other night the Canucks should get a power play even if the refs missed it

1132

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 30/01/2025

I wonder if Juuse Saros knows that instead of giving Juulsen his first point of the season he gave him the gift of getting roasted online

040

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 12/01/2025

Since the beginning of December, here’s where Erik Brännström ranks among the 7 regular #Canucks defencemen (Hughes, Myers, Soucy, Forbort, Desharnais, Juulsen): 6th Corsi for% 7th Shots for% 7th xGF% 7th HDCF% 7th goals for % (2GF, 6GA) 2nd in offensive zone starts

041

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 12/01/2025

Kind of an embarrassing lack of push from the Leafs tbh

180

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 12/01/2025

Elias Pettersson has drawn a penalty per period in the last 3 periods. #Canucks didn’t need that one

0100

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 12/01/2025

One of the most frustrating parts of the #Canucks offense is that it feels like they’re always looking for a pass backwards when they enter the zone

160

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 12/01/2025

It’s been a very encouraging first 4 periods back for Pettersson. #Canucks

1140

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 09/01/2025

How many (if any) games have there been this year where the #Canucks felt offensively imposing? Like the type of game where they’re in the offensive zone in waves, an inevitable “goal is coming” feeling?

5100

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 09/01/2025

#Canucks need more of that. Don’t let guys take extra runs at your stars. Good on Sherwood

0120

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 07/01/2025

The #Canucks power play just looks so much better when Miller is on the left half wall instead of the right

070

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 07/01/2025

Great 1st period for Höglander. Set up the goal, created another chance, couple big hits. Feels like he’s finding his game. #Canucks

1100

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 06/01/2025

It might not fit narratives because he hasn’t *looked* good (imo), but JT Miller has decent 5v5 numbers in the 4 games without Hughes and Pettersson: 52.00% CF 52.63% HDCF 56.89% xGF 29 shots for 18 shots against 3 goals for 2 goals against In just over 51 minutes. #Canucks

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 06/01/2025

The Vikings defence is pleading with the Vikings offense to do *something*

000

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 04/01/2025

Regardless of who’s out of the lineup, you gotta put up more of a fight against a bottom-3 team in the league. Perhaps lean on the “emotional leader” in a game like this

0100

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 04/01/2025

A Miller giveaway followed by slowly skating to the bench while the Preds enter the #Canucks zone. Not a great look!

Did Jeff Bezos fix Elias Pettersson? Many people are saying this.

Believe it or not, JT Miller is actually challenging this goal

2100

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 24/12/2024

Even when the opposing goalie is stuck behind the net the #Canucks make sure to send it back to the point before doing anything too crazy offensively

Avs when Makar is on the ice without MacKinnon (168 minutes): 42% CF 39% HDCF 42% xGF 5 goals for 4 goals against #Canucks with Brännström and Desharnais on the ice together (144 minutes): 48% CF 58% HDCF 59% xGF 7 goals for 5 goals against

2152

Josh Elliott-Wolfe @joshelliottwolfe.bsky.social · 10/12/2024

Hughes vs. Makar always comes down to how their respective teams would play without them to me. The Avs would probably be fine, MacKinnon carries the weight. The #Canucks would be lost and potentially a lottery team.
