I wrote a deeply felt experimental novel I truly believe in. The dozens of pro forma rejections— or even worse, praise from agents who felt that it was very good but didn't think they could sell it— saw me almost go out like him. The story of this novel's posthumous success haunts me.

Shadoe Stevens' real name is Terry Keith Ingstad. This means he invented the name "Shadoe Stevens" and chose to spell it that way, just to be able to correct people when they spell "Shadow" like a human being. Seems like a dick move to me.
