please meet Chanel, who is about to celebrate one whole month since I adopted her from the lovely folks at Peninsula Humane Society her favorite food is my house plants; her favorite hobby is doing crimes; and despite all that she is a Very Good Cat
A tuxedo cat, black except for white on her nose and paws, sits on a wooden floor and looks contemplative. Her eyes are a quite distinctive amber. The same cat, photographed at a chaotic angle, is going absolutely HAM on a Churu. Her eyes are narrow and lowered, like she will cut you if you get in the way of her churu.

Friday palate cleanser: selected pics from a recent blat up to Crater Lake National Park.
A wide-angle view of Crater Lake, an enormous lake in the caldera of an extinct volcano. There is snow in the near foreground; the lake itself is an implausibly deep sapphire color.A dimly lit view of Crater Lake in the very early morning, pre-sunrise. The sky is a gradient from deep blue on the left to a faint orange streak on the right; thin, misty clouds streak across the lake. Pine trees are silhouetted in the foreground. A female deer looks inquisitively at the camera from behind a tree. Her ears are implausibly large, the size of her head, and angled directly toward the viewer. A tiny chipmunk sits on a rock, high on a cliff, with miles of pine forests stretching off into the distance.

I am told that one bank’s Swiss trader ripped his EBS screen from its stand and turned it, devoid of bids or offers, for his tormentors to see. ‘I said there are no fucking rates,’ he screamed. ‘Do you believe me now?’

our colleagues regarded us options traders as odd fish (indeed, with my master’s degree in engineering and an MBA, I was considered to be an overeducated freak). I’m pretty sure that the older members of the spot desk thought there was something just a little bit effete about us.

I keep it on my "miscellaneous shitshows" watchlist in memory of a family friend, a connoisseur of ASX mining shitcos, who pitched me on the name in 1998-ish. It... hasn't done much since then.
A chart of Bougainville Copper's stock price since the late 80s, showing it IPOing at $3 in 1988-ish, trading up to $4 in 1989, then immediately slumping to about 20 cents by 1992 and never recovering. There is A LOT of red on the chart.
010
Jamie Lee Kurtosis, But Spooky @josh.sg · 06/08/2026
Bougainville Copper might be the apotheosis of janky ASX junior mining stocks. Hasn't produced anything since 1989, the mine was the nexus of a ten-year civil war in the 90s, the government owns 72% of the stock, and their mining license has just been revoked… but the market cap's still $80mm!
A "notice to the ASX" from the board of Bougainville Copper, dated 3 August 2026, conforming that "there has been no production since 15 May 1989".

Cropping the original so as not to continue the pileon on OP, but… non-alcoholic drink options have exploded in the last couple years; HIV was a death sentence, now it's ~100% preventable with a twice-yearly injection; & sunscreens in the '80s maxed out at SPF 15. Yes! Some stuff is *much* better!
A screenshot of a post: "air travel is one of those experiences that has gotten monotonically worse over my entire lifetime. question though: has anything in the last 40+ years genuinely gotten better? like, there's more stuff, sure, but is any of it better?"

Assorted Jellybeans: unnecessarily artsy photos from a trip to the Jelly Belly factory up in Fairfield.
A multicolored river of mixed jellybeans, polished to a high sheen, shot in shallow depth-of-field, flows from right to left into a hopper. Looking down at the Jelly Belly factory floor from a high angle. Hundreds of crates of jellybeans—in rich blue, red, yellow, green, and cyan—are stacked high as far as the eye can see. A worker, clad in white, pushes a dolly laden with red jellybeans away from the camera.A conveyor belt laden with jellybeans ready to be mixed into a flavor assortment. The bean colors blend from pink at the top, to yellow and purple at the bottom, with green scattered throughout.

Distressing news from the $HAS Q2 earnings call for anyone hoping for Universes Beyond: Sex and the City
Chris Cocks — Chief Executive Officer

Well, certainly Kamigawa is a sequel to when the last Kamigawa came out. It became the best-selling first-party set of all time. But then basically every other first-party set that came out after that kind of took the crown. I would anticipate that the new Kamigawa do likewise. It should be pretty fun. The other two sets are more original settings for us. And then in terms of the Universes Beyond that we'll have next year, I don't want to give away too much on those.

Each of them I think will be pretty cool. I think we have a different kind of announce strategy which is more IP-specific around some significant dates and significant events associated with those. I think the one thing I'll say on the Universes Beyond partners that we have next year is they'll probably be a bit more fantasy-adjacent. And I don't think any of them will take place in New York City because we definitely have gotten that feedback from some fans.
