I've spent much of my past few weeks birding in Beauduc an isolated "island" village in Camargue which forms an incredible migrant trap and is accessible via a rough track across 3kms of salt flats which separates it from the "mainland" ebird.org/tripreport/5...

Whilst searching for Goshawk during an extended lunch break today I finally caught up with a Black Vulture #326 on the YearList (still no Goshawks however...)

Over the moon (to put it mildly) to find this first year male SIBERIAN BLUE ROBIN in our garden at Hillwell, Shetland this morning. The fifth record for Britain and a first for Shetland. #BirdingScotland #UKbirding #RareBirdsUK #Birds #UKWildlife

Turtle doves to be shot for sport again across Europe as EU lifts hunting ban
Ban in place since 2021 has increased numbers of globally vulnerable pigeon species that is close to extinction in UK Turtle doves will be allowed to be shot for sport again across Europe, as the EU lifts a ban on hunting that was credited with the species’ tentative recovery. The EU will allow hunters to shoot 132,000 birds across Spain, France and Italy after a population boom for the threatened bird in western Europe due to a hunting ban that came into effect in 2021. Tengmalm's Owl (✅296) yesterday somewhere on Mt Ventoux 👀! It has bred in the area in the past but the last confirmed sightings are from 2006 (although the secretive nature of this species mean it may have stayed undected all along), big thanks to the observer who 1st recorded the bird on the 19th!

My 1st time "Gulling" today at the only local dump (in Vaucluse), misty weather and limited views of the main pile on which gulls were feeding made things difficult! Amongst many Yellow-legged Gulls and Black headed Gulls >2 1cy Lesser Black-backed Gull and 1 Euro Herring/YL Gull (photos below ⬇️)

Little Bunting recorded migrating over Mt Ventoux with a remote recorder on October 22nd (following the Olive-backed Pipit on the same spot last autumn) quite decent for an inland site! 2nd county record for Vaucluse (last one was in November 2005)

Sorting through Dotterel photos from August on Mt Ventoux. This year we reached a total of 14 (between the 22nd of August and the 19th of October), down from the record 30 of 2023. This is likely also down to less prospection in September and a lower effort altogether. 🧵
