Actually, grab a writer friend and write a pilot episode of a horror show and pitch this to Netflix. 😜❤️

🧵6/6 : Products can be the ultimate game to design, once you get past surface "gamification" and into the psychology of fun. Required reading: Theory of Fun by Raph Koster. Podcast episode on this coming soon 👀 #GameDesign #Podcast #ProductDesign

🧵5/6 : But it's a tightrope. One wrong move and users get bored and leave, or feel the system is exploiting them and quit. #UXDesign #ProductManagement

🧵4/6 : Example: becoming an @Uber driver. Onboarding → learn the pickup/dropoff/review loop → master it → unlock peak hours, bonus incentives. No badges required. That's fun (sort of). #ProductStrategy #Gamification

🧵3/6 : Good game design introduces the space, lets users grok the core features, then slowly layers in complexity and fresh challenges using what they've mastered. #ProductDesign #UXDesign

🧵2/6 : The real magic is "grokking", mastering a pattern. Fun lives in the delicate balance between learning something new and getting frustrated/bored by it. #UX #Gamification

🧵1/6 : Hot take: gamification ≠ fun. We've been told games are fun, so slap on badges, streaks, and progress bars, right? Wrong. #ProductManagement #GameDesign

Tried it on a code base for a game I made, and fixed "everything" except the one bug that was breaking the app. These remain LLMs despite the marketing.

@garrytan-yc.bsky.social 's claim "Vibe-code your SaaS in a weekend" skips the part where you maintain, support, and secure it for the next three years. Building (and shipping) is now easy. Owning the aftermath, distributing, & understanding the market is the job. Why not use a SaaS?

Velocity is a multiplier. It amplifies whatever direction you've set. If the direction is wrong, faster just means wronger. Speed isn't strategy.

Multiple projects, one brain. The real cost of #ContextSwitching isn't time. It's the slightly.. goopier version of myself that shows up to each one. Still not sure if that's a skill problem or just the deal. How does managing multiple projects affect you? #FounderLife #BuildInPublic

Many people wonder why their #podcast sucks. So today for #buildinpublic I show how I make a show. All of those gaps & cuts are removals of "umm", "ahh" & other fillers, or to make smooth transitions between thoughts. It's not just record & go. You need to MAKE a good show.
Screenshot of DAW Ableton Live showing how the poster edited the podcast. It has many cuts and edits with several different audio tracks of various colors.

For #mayday and #buildinpublic, I released #LAUNCH and never talked about building it or launching it. Built in #Flutter on #ios and #android it helps #founders go from 0 -> 1. All laid out in a easy to follow path like #Duolingo including templates, tools, and frameworks. Feedback welcome!

Haven't done a #buildinpublic as I have been attempting to do more promotion ans marketing for @sonoday.bsky.social with facelesa vids. I don't feel good about making them, but it feels like I am fighting against the stream by not. 👇 Let me know your struggles!

Brother, Genocide has a real definition and meaning. We can't just use it as a label for wars or conflicts we don't like. It's definitely awful, but... In what way does it qualify as a Genocide?

The entire process is so de-moralizing and an incredible waste of time when you actually WANT to work. It's a full-time job #JobHunting, and yet I am not supposed to have career gaps, but keep my self skilled with side-projects AND not turn these into a business, otherwise I am a hiring risk.

Only 1 had the balls to actually call me personally and reject me, which I appreciated. Another the Founder decided to just give his friend the job after I did several rounds and a case-study presentation and the hiring manager stated it was "the best product manager interview he's had" #JobHunting

Have been applying for jobs for around 4-5 months now. Almost 300 applications and 7 final round interviews, almost all with the feedback "we went with a candidate whom better aligned with the role requirements", despite having extremely aligned background. #JobHunting

Literally every new product I see on Product hunt looks like the second picture. What template, tutorial, or source did you follow to land on that? No shade, just morbidly curious.

🧵 7/7 TL;DR: Companies claiming #AI "replaces" workers miscalculate costs. AI needs human input, so costs = salary + "Token Budget". A $100k employee now costs $125-150k. Add unpredictable usage and HR overhead, the 25%+ increases + no revenue gains means more expenses. Just hire a junior?
000
josephnatoli.bsky.social @josephnatoli.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
🧵 6/7 : So my question to the #AI companies and #CEOs firing their workforce... where exactly does the cost savings come in? If the revenue gained per employee hasn't risen & there has been at least a 25% increase in HR cost due to Token Budgets... what are we doing here? Just hire a Junior?
100
josephnatoli.bsky.social @josephnatoli.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
🧵 5/7 : HR now needs to build in Token Budgets as a perk to new hires, and update existing employees with budgets too. I am sure this won't cause any headaches for anyone or any bureaucracy when a worker wants to increase their budget to mess around and waste more money! Costs continue to go up!
100
josephnatoli.bsky.social @josephnatoli.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
🧵 4/7 : In this rough assumption I am giving grace to the fact that the models are non-deterministic, so there is actually no way to predictably determine Token costs. Not to mention if the worker wants to iterate on ANYTHING they have to send more tokens and output more tokens! #CFOs love that!
100
josephnatoli.bsky.social @josephnatoli.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
🧵 3/7 : With #Token costs rising we can assume that a worker who is a medium user will most likely cost their Salary + 1/4 to 1/2 of that same salary in Token Budget. Simple math, a $100k employee now costs the company $125 - $150k thanks to the token cost. Yet the company is saving money!
100
josephnatoli.bsky.social @josephnatoli.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
🧵 2/7 : Which means that HR costs now need to be calculated with a human salary and a new thing I will call a "Token Budget". This is going to hurt CAPEX though considering the model providers (aka #AI companies) are moving towards per Token monetization. In short, Token costs are going up!
100
josephnatoli.bsky.social @josephnatoli.bsky.social · 12/05/2026
🧵 1/7 : Talking #AI &HR cost fallacy today. I find it kinda hilarious that companies still think they can "replace" workers with AI. Starting with the fact that there is no completely replacing a human worker because these models need a human for input to kick off any processing.

With the rise of research regarding Microplastics, this sort of innovation is badly needed. The amount of plastic wrap in food production, even here in the EU, is astounding. I was just thinking there MUST be alternatives from Kelp or something, but bamboo also sounds great. Sorry pandas!

When talking #buildinpublic most #founders and #indiedevs don't ever cover the marketing and growth aspect. Honestly, this is exponentially harder than doing the development. So, today I built this faceless post I FREE, took several hours, & taught me so much. Interested in how, comment "sonoday"

.@edzitron.com , do you have any insight into the cost to train a new frontier model such as Opus 4.7. Are we talking dozens of billions or hundreds of billions? I have seen $12 billion for the training and $21 billion for the hardware, but I think you have more accurate insights.

Hey #AI, can we stop calling it "thinking". This marketing trick pisses me off. At best models process tokens, calculate attention, and generate token output.. not thinking. This language implies understanding and planning. That is not what is happening. The language we use around this matters.

We aren't talking about mythology here! The Sumerians and other pre-cursor civilizations (like those being found at Gobeckli Tepe in Turkey) were just like us, but we know little about them because they didn't write. However we're talking culture here. Only myth we have from Sumerians is Gilgamesh!
