0.15.1 out with a hot fix to plug a memory leak in 0.15. It can cause the host system to become unresponsive, so please be sure to update if you're on 0.15. Thanks and now back to the show!

Deploying apps on the web has always been a major turn off for me - it feels like being gifted a litter of puppies. Assorted pain reduction services exist with tamagotchi rental economics. And then I discovered miren.dev. I have absolutely no association with them. I am just genuinely in awe.

IIRC, if you want it to work in all subdomains as well as the root, prefix the domain in the config/session file with a dot. This way the browser presents the same cookie to the root and all subdomains of that domain.

I find people can struggle coming to Livewire from Inertia/Vue. See my responses to @marty.friedel.au below on why I think that is. TL;DR - Livewire components don't work the same way as you'd expect. And also Inertia/Vue might just suit you better, so it's great Inertia and Livewire both exist!

`margin-block: 1lh;` is such a better default for paragraphs of text than `margin-block: 1em;` I highly recommend it.

It just crossed my mind that I never posted a picture of the switch itself 🤦‍♂️ Well, here it is. The others should arrive before Christmas
Sonoff 3 gang white smart switch. This is the US version (120w).

Each button has a small LED dot on the left side that indicates the state of the toggle:
- No light means light is turned off.
- Red color means the light is turned on.
The middle button’s LED shows blue if the light is turned off, and it turns purple-ish if the light is turned on.

The reel is 150m long. The actual longest run is ~only~ about 37m. Still, high enough for me to be afraid 🫣

Jorge González @jorgeglz.io · 01/12/2024
Most of the equipment arrived today, and tested that the PoE switch works, the PoE splitters work, and that all cameras work as well. Just need to wait for the Ethernet reel to start working. Pretty excited to see how this will look like!

Jorge González @jorgeglz.io · 01/12/2024
Will be doing PoE to simplify wiring. At the camera end, as they do not support PoE, I’ll put some PoE splitters. Longest run is ~37m away (not straight line) from where my router currently is. Not too far away tbf.

Re: Proxying to HomeKit I’m using Scrypted, it works really good. Tried go2rtc, but for some reason, cameras proxied through it do not support HKSV 😢 Lag isn’t that bad, but I still think I’ll be reaching the limits of how much a Wifi only Apple TV can handle as a home hub 😅

Parents in law also took a chance with the Black Friday deals. They bought some security cameras, and now I’ll be wiring it all. Also, found out I can proxy them to HomeKit (they do not support it natively) and have 10 days of recordings in the cloud. Good stuff

Also, automations in HomeKit are great, but I can see the limits in the horizon. I may try out the “Controller for HomeKit” app as it unlocks enhanced conditionals for automations, among other stuff

Think I’ll stick with smart switch + dumb bulb for the time being. Family visits regularly and will be a PITA if they are unable to physically turn on/off lights. I hope the time comes when this sector is not so niche and there is wider offers
000
Jorge González @jorgeglz.io · 28/11/2024
Just checked them out. They do look pretty good. The only problem in my setup is that house uses 2 or 3 gang switches in a 120 box, and the only ones doing physical switches for these scenarios are Sonoff 🥲
100
Jorge González @jorgeglz.io · 27/11/2024
They do look pretty nice! By any chance, would you know of a physical medium to control those? If it is Matter over Thread, I see myself investing into the bulbs and separate “physical” switch to control them. On/off is good enough. Just need a physical thing as we have a toddler in house
100
Jorge González @jorgeglz.io · 27/11/2024
First Matter device in my hands, a Sonoff Smart Light Switch. It’s way snappier than the smart light bulb that wife bought, and it being “Matter”, I can actually use it with HomeKit, so HomePod can control lights without any problems. Think I’ll buy 6 more to fill first floor.

We were asked later on to revert course and start operating as we normally would. Only if there was some benefit to us on following company procedures, we could do so, otherwise, KISS. We’re back to shipping fast and company is happy

Lived through this. Worked in a small team (founder & me) and we shipped fast. Upon acquisition, we were asked to adhere to the company’s processes. We got slow af, and management noticed that, maybe, it existing processes would not benefit a 2 people team.
