then there's gil penalosa who's been really proud to support saxe X_X
a tweet from gil penalosa, penalosg.bsky.social, which reads:

"End game is mayoral ambition... to be in line for Mayor Chow's departure in 2030 or 2034.

Not about University-Rosedale which has Dianne Saxe, a councillor with integrity, hard worker, progressive, environmentalist with all the credentials. Surprisingly, Canadian politics is very much friends & family."

It quotes skeets David Rider below which reads:

"It's official - Mike Layton has registered to run for city council in University-Rosedale, aiming to win a comeback to Toronto city hall four years after he left."

There is a photo of Layton smiling at Metro Hall registering to run for uni-rosedale council.

Yeah, there's this person. Sketchy behaviour on the account and the grammar and comma splices are weird.
A skeet from a user who I've crudely blocked profile photo and username.

It reads:

"Dianne Saxe

March 2019, conculued Saxe's tenure as Ontario's Environment Commisioner. Ford fired her for openly criticized the government's rollback of climate policies.

Parents, and young people should be linking up to thank her for 30 years and counting.

Come out Tuesday and do so."

this reads like a fever dream but also maybe just maybe this stops one person from thinking they can make it rich doing margin trading on FX.
A screenshot of the FX Fighter Kurumi-Chan wikipedia plot section which reads:

When she was in middle school, Kurumi Fukuga's mother Kozue became involved in foreign exchange (FX) margin trading. However, Kozue had secretly been using the family's money, which caused her to lose ¥20 million following the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers and its associated fallout. Unable to bear with the losses and their possible effects on their family, Kozue commits suicide, devastating Kurumi. Vowing to avenge what happened, Kurumi spends her high school and university years becoming interested in FX, hoping to earn back the 20 million her mother lost. Despite some early successes and her good intentions, she realizes that margin trading has its consequences.

From the little I've seen of him since taking over leadership of the party, he really comes across as a kind of lefty Poilievre, making bad faith representations of Carney's government initiatives. Disappointing.

While I dare not presume what the average Londoner thinks, gotta tell you this don't look too good in print by my eye. The Albany Club, especially, is rarified air.
Screenshot from the article to the link I'm responding to. It reads:

Speaking to The Free Press Wednesday, Krose explained that a good friend and mentor from her previous work in politics is involved with the Albany Club and wished to support her campaign by offering to host the fundraiser.

Article content
“That way, I could bring friends that I had in Toronto, whether they’re in the banking or legal or government or advocacy circles, together to help support my campaign,” she said. “When the opportunity to have other people that really just support me as a candidate and as a person offer to do some fundraising for me outside of the city, I thought that was it’s different. It’s not typical, but I was really grateful for it.”

Quiet-Craft5945:
I had a similar experience. Turns out… i owed CRA money and CRA sent them a letter to liquidate so they can send the cash back to CRA

ifckedit:
Gawd danm how much would you have to owe for the govvy to be like nahhhhhhh I'm taking this if u want it or not

Quiet-Craft5945:
I had just learned to trade. I didn’t really know what I was doing but i kept selling and buying air Canada (when it was like $2ish) and all my money was in TFSA and it had ballooned to around $700k but what i did that I did was I used some of that money to put down payment and buy 2 houses. (When prices were much cheaper than they are currently)

I bought a house in Kleinburg and 1 in Brampton (Brampton was to rent out) and I had my condo where I lived.

Not knowing the rules, I put some money back in regular trading account to start trading and sold the 2 houses down the line, and they came after me for capital gains tax (mainly for houses not be my primary residence)

They took like $200k from my account by this same liquidation method and there was nothing I could do.

I called the bank (Questrade) they said “we are instructed to give you this phone # to call - sort it out with them) when I called, it was CRAs #.

I was 27 at the time.Eagerbeaver98:
CRA never even sent you a notice but liquidated you? Insane.

Edit: they did contact them prior

Quiet-Craft5945:
They did. I wasn’t mature enough to think they had all that power.

An email message that reads

Hi there,

(redacted person's name) here from 1Password Support. Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns about our decision to become a corporate patron of the Omacom Foundation. I’m sorry to hear that this decision has led you to cancel your subscription.

We truly value the longstanding relationship we’ve had with you, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspective. Your feedback is important to us, and I’ve made sure your concerns are documented and shared with the appropriate teams.

We understand that our response may not change how you feel about this decision, but we’re grateful for the trust you’ve placed in 1Password over the years and for the opportunity to hear your feedback.

@1password.bsky.social another one cancelling because of the big boss's support of Omarchy. An annual family plan too.
a gmail email modal. It's directed towards support@1password.com, with the subject line "Why I cancelled my 1pass subscription". It reads:

Good morning my lovely comrades in 1pass support! Please just put this in the folder marked "another cancellation because of the Omarchy donation" please and thank you.

I'll keep it short and sweet -- after seeing the Omarchy donation and the commensurate response from 1password (as seen in this Verge article) I have cancelled my annual family plan subscription and will no longer be a customer after my billing period expires.

Furthermore, as a software developer in Toronto, I am recommending any friends and colleagues to not work at 1password and actively helping any current 1password employees I know (which is a lot!) find employment.in other places because of this.

I know y'all on the support team don't have any control over this, and so I don't want to make your day worse by spitting out bile. That being said, I've also seen the statement you are forced to respond to people's concerns with and don't really need nor want you to send it.

Sorry that your bosses have gone off the deep end, hopefully you can find a new job sooner than later.

damn alright imagine cinemas tell me how you really feel
an email titled "TONY Pulled from The Carlton" that reads:

Dear Carlton Moviegoers,

We have some disappointing news to share with our Carlton guests. Due to circumstances outside of our control, TONY will no longer be playing at Imagine Cinemas Carlton.

We know how excited many of you were to see this film on the big screen, and we were just as excited to bring it to The Carlton. After seeing how much our guests loved Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, we were especially looking forward to welcoming TONY to the theatre, as it comes from the same director, Matt Johnson.

Unfortunately, A24 has made the decision to withdraw TONY from our location due to antiquated "clearing" practices, ones that still exist in Canada because of the hegemonic theatrical exhibition market share that exists in this country. As a result, we will no longer be able to screen the film at The Carlton.

We know this is disappointing, particularly for those who had already purchased tickets. We’re disappointed too, and we’re sorry that we won’t be able to bring the film to you as planned.

If you were hoping to see TONY at The Carlton, we encourage you to let A24 and Matt Johnson know. You can reach out to A24 through their social channels, @A24, and Matt Johnson through @tonymovie.

Hearing directly from moviegoers can help demonstrate the demand for films like this at independent cinemas and let them know that Toronto audiences want the opportunity to experience TONY at The Carlton.

We also encourage guests to contact the Competition Bureau of Canada to lodge a complaint about unfair business practices being used in theatrical distribution in Canada.

Here is the link to formalize a complaint:

https://competition-bureau.canada.ca/en

We truly appreciate your support of Imagine Cinemas Carlton and your continued support of independent cinema in Toronto. We’ll continue doing everything we can to bring unique, exciting and in-demand films to our screens.

i may be out on a limb here but i believe it whole heartedly
a side-by-side map of toronto. i have drawn a bounding box from roughly roncesvalles in the west to the don river in the east and dupont to the north to the water in the south.

the next side shows a heatmap of who all drew downtown boundaries where. it radiates red from the center of toronto and gets lighter at the edges. most people seem to act as if the area around bay street and university as downtown.

the implication of this post is that my boundaries are quite large in comparison to other torontonians, who see a little sliver of the city as downtown as my western boundaries are only shared by roughly 10% of people who have filled out this map.

A shockingly weird open concept bedroom that also doubles as a bathroom.

The bedroom is covered in small pink tile; there's a bed in the middle with a stark geometric pattern. An abstract art piece with bold curves and lines is above the bed.

A tub (A TUB!!!) is in the background with curtains at the foot of the tub.

There's frosted glass that separates the other room from this bedroom; a small makeup mirror is on some wooden cabinetry with a sink.

You just know shining a blacklight in there would be nasty.Another angle of this horrifying bedroom that doubles as a bathroom. We're on the other side of the tub and a cheeky lil' toilet is center frame.

The handle that controls the tub's faucet is away from the tub, above an end table or something i guess.

The tile from the wall is on the floor. What the fuck dude.

How many people know that sneaky dee's is gonna get help finding an interim spot and that they've got a spot already carved out for them if/when this building is built? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
Text from a CBC story which reads:

But a representative for a developer working on the project, Goldberg Group, told the meeting that space in the new building would be earmarked for Sneaky Dee’s. Clay Janzen also said the company would help the bar find an interim location in the area when work on the development starts, which she said is years away.

George Diamantouros, general manager at Sneaky Dee’s, said the bar has always had a good relationship with the landowners and he has no reason to doubt their assurances.

“Ideally for us, we wouldn’t want anything to change,” Diamantouros told CBC News on Thursday. “We understand that it’s out of our control. But at least there’s a modicum of control in the fact we’ll still be involved down the line.”
