I will not accept memories old enough to drive a car as evidence that the Yankees are “better” than the Mets. They may present as better. They may win more games. But what good is “better” when you are not happier for it? jordanisadad.substack.com/p/take-it-fr...

Take it from a Mets lifer, Yankees fans: You’re miserable

I underwent open heart surgery three weeks ago to repair an aortic aneurysm and replace my bicuspid aortic valve. Still feels pretty surreal 📓

I had major, complex open-heart surgery earlier this week to fix a valvular defect I’ve known about since I was a baby, plus another issue it was causing. Kept a journal month leading up to it ❤️‍🩹📓 jordanisadad.substack.com/p/the-bicusp...

As you read this, I’ve already undergone open-heart surgery to repair an ascending aortic aneurysm. Here’s what was on my mind the month prior to my operation.

Expected sports and nonsense from @joeposnanski.com and @kentremendous.bsky.social, got sports and meaning. Now fully equipped to tell people why pasting a Knicks championship sticker over a Brooklyn Nets 2019 China Games water bottle is totally rational behavior

There is a domestic trans refugee crisis already underway, a systematic delegitimization and displacement of thousands and thousands of trans people who just want to live and be left the fuck alone. But it’s all just engagement, right? Someone’s gonna get the clicks, so why not you?

The most maddening thing about current trans athlete discourse is that our government is ALREADY harassing trans people out of their homes and livelihoods, and we have to sit here and humor it. Real humans are under real threat from their American government. www.nytimes.com/2026/08/13/o...

I live in Jupiter, Florida and have since retiring from the car dealership I owned in Toms River, NJ back in 2007. I play 162 holes of golf per week and the top issue in my life is this terrible Mandami pied-a-terre tax in New York City. What about all the money those people spend at restaurants?

It’s remarkable how burdensome WNBA discourse is relative to the joyfulness and lightness and inclusiveness of the actual in-arena experience. Like, go to a Liberty game and convince me this is the same league being crushed by all this manufactured extracurricular bullshit. It’s wild!

It’s not just that ESPN is bloodletting journalistic dignity for the sake of blowhard punditry. It’s that these voices continue to peddle and platform right-wing pet issues. Like, Stephen A. used to just be a Loud Guy, now he’s a Loud Guy with an axe to grind against trans kids and public health.

I’m sure they are, and sadly, I’m also sure they know whatever revenue they’ll lose from fans who make this their line in the sand are pennies compared whatever the value of the Novig deal is.

Very much not a bettor, but it feels like a church and state thing? Like, my gambling is over here, my fandom is over there. And whether books getting into bed with teams makes a material threat to the integrity of competition (it’s imperiled all the same IMO) the perception reeks, even to bettors

There’s a strange rhythmic comfort in getting stoked for USMNT every four years only for them to crash out on schedule every time. Of course I’d rather they be good enough to win, but they so thoroughly failed to show up against Belgium, it’s almost as if they were fulfilling a patriotic duty.

It would be a real shame if Balogun doesn’t get to play again this World Cup. He feels cosmically tethered to this country in a way that feels stronger than many who live their whole lives here. Not to mention, he’s really fucking good at scoring the soccer ball.
000
Jordan Rabinowitz @jordanrab.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Balogun is born in Brooklyn a day before Independence Day. He returns to London either just before or after a cataclysmic American tragedy. Maybe he chooses the US because he feels spurned by Southgate, or that Nigeria doesn’t provide as big a stage. Or maybe unseen forces were at work.

Jordan Rabinowitz @jordanrab.bsky.social · 02/07/2026
Folarin Balogun’s birthday is tomorrow, July 3rd (same!). His parents returned from NYC to London when he was two months old, right around September 11, 2001. I don’t logically think one has anything to do with the other, but there is something in the water of Balogun’s USMNT journey.

A few years ago I started to make a small donation to the Trevor Project for every Bobby Bo mention I saw on Twitter on July 1. Since I left that place (and try to be on microblogging sites less generally) I've just made a lump sum donation. I hope you do the same! give.thetrevorproject.org

Bonny Bonilla Day is emblematic of everything that has poisoned sports discourse since the proliferation of social media.

Jordan Rabinowitz @jordanrab.bsky.social · 01/07/2026
Despite the fact that deferred payments are common and the Mets are far from the only team with an interest-laden albatross on their books (AND Bobby Bonilla was actually pretty good for the Mets), low-effort engagement farmers continue to use this as an occasion to punch down at my favorite team.

If anything, the exploits of these Knicks should serve as evidence for Mets fans that championship alchemy can be conjured even in the most historically toxic environments. But for some reason it doesn’t feel that way. It just feels bad. open.substack.com/pub/jordanis...

OG Anunoby is set to throw out the first pitch at Citi Field on Sunday, and I’m thinking maybe the Mets should just keep him on the mound when the Phillies come to bat. There’s more magic in that right hand than anything the Mets have been able to conjure. open.substack.com/pub/jordanis...

I can’t get over this NBA Finals matchup. One team a methodically built fire, finally roaring after years of reconfiguring the logs just so. The other, a heap of dry brush thrown atop a crackling 7-foot-6 duraflame.

Knicks fans are not just the bombastic children making cops assigned to 33rd and 8th wake up with dread. In the shouting and rabble-rousing there is a quietude, an eye of this storm in which most Knicks fans sit silently agape, unable to find the words for what this team is doing.

I love how Mike Breen will go to painstaking lengths to be nonpartisan and spin a narrative, especially when the Cavs are playing like hot dog water, only for the “Inside” crew to be like “The Cavs are playing like hot dog water why are you even still watching this game”

It’s working this perfectly because the Knicks built a megazord of the New York City: Jalen Brunson is Manhattan. The City incarnate. He is the show. KAT is Brooklyn. Big and prolific enough to be his own center of gravity. A hulking giant of artfulness and brute force…

Mikal Bridges is Queens. Unassuming, quiet consistency as its own excellence. Josh Hart is The Bronx. Overlook him at your own risk. He is essential. The culture runs through him. OG Anunoby is Staten Island. Don’t get stuck there in isolation. Does the dirty work you often take for granted.

It’s a little bit “fuck your oversized free t-shirt, I’m wearing my fit” but it’s also: New York City’s heterogeneity is its homogeneity. The “uniform” is the mosaic formed by countless forms of individual self expression. I love this place. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/21/n...
