Not everyone has the luxury to make this choice. That's why I'm using my position as a transportation demand management practitioner to advocate for better active transportation infrastructure.
Someone rides a bike with trailer in tow down TV Hwy. The road is filled with cars.

Does this encompass the community priorities of enhanced transit (57%), safety (42%), and livability (28%) evaluated in the project goals? Absolutely not, Washington County and ODOT simply disregarded the community's asks in favor of vehicle throughput.

What was once a simple crossing has been turned into a five minute ordeal with multiple segments (minimum two), and treacherous waits for the user inside the intersection between slip lanes and traffic moving at 45mph+.

In its most recent iteration, funded and designed in scope with the TV Highway Transit & Safety project circa 2024. Another signalized slip lane has been added to the north side of TV Hwy for the movement from westbound to northbound Cornelius Pass. Curbs and flex posts have been added as well.

After Cornelius Pass was extended south across the tracks circa 2018, virtually every part of this intersection has been touched. All four sides of the intersection had crosswalks. The side closest to the tracks has signalized slip lanes for both right turn movements with pedestrian phases.

Here’s a timeline of the "improvements" made to this intersection. Before the suburban expansion south of the tracks, there was one leg to cross to reach the other side of this roadway. Granted, there were no sidewalks on the south side of the roadway, and the ADA ramps left plenty to be desired.
The intersection of TV Hwy and Cornelius Pass. It is signalized, Cornelius Pass does not extend south of TV Hwy. Only two of the three sides of the intersection have crosswalks. There is no sidewalk on the south side of the intersection, but there is a TriMet Line 57 stop.

It took over five minutes, and four light cycles to cross TV Hwy at Cornelius Pass after ODOT and Washington County added new slip lanes.

Tualatin Valley Highway in Aloha (and most elsewhere) is a car sewer designed by ODOT and Washington County to ostracize, maim, and kill anyone outside of a vehicle.
TV Hwy as seen from the sidewalk. Signs advertising new build homes are placed in the planting strip between the sidewalk and roadway. A cyclist uses the bike lane, approaching a conflict with drivers entering a turn lane. The road is filled with cars.TV Hwy as seen from a Line 57 bus stop. A cyclist with trailer in tow used the bike lane, the road is filled with cars.An intersection between TV Hwy and a local street. The sidewalks on the near-side of the intersection has been rebuilt with adequate ADA ramps, however the far side is untouched. The lone curb cut on the far side is positioned in front of a drain, and far too steep to be accessible.

Another driver has careened their vehicle off the roadway at Roy Rodgers and Scholls Ferry. At what point do the engineers responsible for this intentionally deadly design deserve to have their licenses taken away and charged with manslaughter? @cityoftigard.bsky.social @cityofbeaverton.bsky.social

As my neighbors lose access to vital transportation options on a street with sidewalks on only one side, and 85th percentile speeds 10+ mph above the signed limit. We can expect more collisions, more injuries, and more deaths.
On the side of the road, a beg button attached to an RRB with a sign that reads "PUSH BUTTON FOR WARNING LIGHTS - WAIT FOR GAP IN TRAFFIC"

What do we expect our community members to do when transit service is eliminated in their neighborhood? Some of my constituents in Tigard are about to find out the hard way.
A sign at a bus stop explaining that the street is losing transit service soon.

it used to take a few seconds to fill out the pdxreporter app for this. now you have to sit through three pre recorded messages (one is entirely duplicative of the last) and two different touch-tone menus just to leave a ten second voicemail no one will listen to

This is a very family oriented area. You should definitely bring along your spouses and little ones. @robnosse.bsky.social, bring along your grandkids! They're sure to get hours of safe play and wonder on the painted bike lanes on Foster and shared lanes on 82nd.
A cyclist rides on the painted bike lane west on Foster, just after crossing 82nd Ave.

hey @robnosse.bsky.social and and Kate Lieber, thanks for advancing the gutting of the Connect Oregon, TOF, SRTS, and many more non-highway ODOT programs. you should come stand out here at 82nd and Foster to show your constituents how much you love cars, and how great they are for society!

I got a chance to ride Honda's Fastport E-quad earlier this year and was impressed by how comfortable and easy it felt to pilot. Light devices like these have the potential to revolutionize delivery logistics (and improve safety!) for communities and campuses with even mild density.
