Debating whether or not Republicans *really* want to abolish multiracial, pluralistic democracy is futile. The proof is in the pudding, and the pudding is the state level: Wherever they are in charge, Republicans are openly embracing staunchly authoritarian measures intended to erect one-party rule.

Two things: 1) Unclear what that is actually supposed to mean - there is no legal/constitutional path from “declare emergency” to “military rounding up people for deportation.” 2) That doesn’t mean this isn’t extremely dangerous. It’s not just a distraction or rhetoric. It’s the defining project.

Four days after the German-American Bund held their 1939 pro-Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden, a similarly fascist event was held at a Portland, OR high school. Portland's mayor was the MC, and a former Governor chaired the meeting. The "enemies within" they warned about were New Deal Democrats.

Today CNN announced NH & IA GOP Prez debates. DeSantis quickly tweeted “I accept! Can’t wait to debate in Iowa!” The debate is not (at least yet) sanctioned by the RNC, which has warned candidates against unsanctioned debates. DeSantis has edited his tweet to remove the “I accept” part. 🤷‍♂️
