Chat, is a $1 billion outlay to prevent $.03 billion in annual losses cost effective? Asking for @governor.ny.gov, @mta.info, and @nytimes.com who refuse to do the bare minimum to inform their constituents/users/readers $.29B evasion losses * (150 / 472 stations) * .35 evasion reduction) = $.03B
By 2029, the M.T.A. plans to spend more than $1 billion to install one or more of the models at 150 of the city's 472 subway stationsThe new saloon-style doors - part of a pilot program that started last year to replace decades-old turnstiles at 20 stations - have led to an average of 35 percent less fare beating, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the state agency that runs the subway. How much evasion is there and how does it happen?

The MTA estimates that for 2022 it lost about $285 million to evasion on subways.Subway Gates Deterred Fare Evasion, M.T.A. Says. More Will Be Installed.

A pilot program to replace subway turnstiles with high-tech entry gates has led to a major reduction in fare evasion, New York transit officials said, and 50 more stations will soon have them.

On the one hand the gov't controlling right is actively purging leadership of, denying aid and funding to, restricting voting for, and outright criminalizing disfavored groups and speech. But on the other hand they're disingenuously blaming this on invented actions of college students 5+ years ago.

Lie. Biden definitely wasn't "maxxing out" on "illegal immigration." Immigration activists denounced his policy as too draconian, and Dems tried to pass a hawkish immigration bill. Similar point re: Starmer. NYT thinks the op-ed page is for publishing lies, at least if the lies are right-wing. 6/x
After 2020 we tried putting this establishment back in charge, but the Biden era just gave us a more left-wing version of meritocratic hubris, replacing experts with interest groups, maxxing out on social liberalism and illegal immigration and then unraveling completely in the end. Something similar could be said about the Keir Starmer experiment in Britain. There is no evidence that the old elite has a blueprint suited to contemporary governance, no reason to expect that it won’t just cycle through the same mistakes and backlash.

Interesting framing for a story that is pretty clearly "Alina Bonsell was booted from Hinge and Bumble for using the apps to solicit votes, violating the apps' terms of service"
A spokesperson for Bonsell did acknowledge the candidate asked some potential suitors on the app whether they would vote for her - requests that appear to fly in the face of the apps' rules of engagement. But the spokesperson insisted Bonsell posed those questions "jokingly."

Under appreciated about NY winners is that they ran better campaigns. They talked to voters & got voters to talk to each other about them. Magnetism 101: if you want people to come to your cause, be attractive. Pollingists can't comprehend or recreate this: donors are their audience.

And Goldman is uniquely unpopular within his district. In 22 he won the primary with 1/4 (17K) of the vote as progs cannibalized each other. In 24 he won just 2/3 (23K) despite facing no challenger. Lander hardly had to raise a finger to win 2/3 (55k) of the primary vote (Goldman spent 4X more).
