Hear me out. All police misconduct cases paid out of police pension funds. Because as a citizen I'm really sick of public funds being used to pay these AND having to worry about a cop doing something shitty to me because they have no accountability.

Ohmigod. I started listening to 'Welcome to Night Vale' and the weather-song was an old favourite of mine. "Last Song" by Jason Webley took me right back.

After 2 weeks, I'm good enough at my mad #svalboard to do quotidian work. There's nowt printed on the keys; I just have to memorise where everything is. I already use #Dvorak, so am used to keys with "wrong" labels. I spent yesterday coding, which helped me to memorise where all the brackets are.

UK offshore tax havens are epicenters of global corruption. Secrecy is used to launder money, evade taxes, bust sanctions, shield crooks. Money flows to the City of London. Despite promises, they obstruct transparency. UK has legal responsibility for good governance of its tax havens. Must act.

Just watched Romeo +Juliet. So many incredible lines. Such scathing insults. Such good word play. Such imaginative metaphors. Also, great soundtrack. Now might have to watch Julie Taymor's Titus.

Well. That is it. #AlbumParty done. I enjoyed it. I think Hot Chips's early albums are so familiar that I feel very differently about them than the newer albums. But Freakout/Release actually has some very catchy moments and I want to give it more play to see if it becomes a favourite.

A Bath Full of Ecstasy was very pleasant, but nothing really grabbed me. To be fair, I was pretty deep into teaching myself a new application, so maybe I was not giving it the space it deserved. Happy to try again in the future. Now onto Freakout/Release from 2022.

Not bad. A couple of standouts but mostly very ok. Now onto A Bath Full of Ecstacy from 2019. How were Hot Chip putting out so many albums? This is madness.

People broke into our back garden earlier this week. Fortunately, all they stole was a bike we were gonna give away on Freecycle after finding it abandoned nearby. Not a terrible brand but 2 totally flat tires and I couldn't be bothered to walk it to a shop for repair. Done me a favour, really.

I don't know why, but my arm is killing me today. So I set up Voice Access on my computer to reduce typing and mousing. So far, interesting but a pfaff. For example, I had to manually correct these sentences. Also, it doesn't seem to recognise many app names and switching between monitors is tricky.

So, my #GreatManchesterRun 10k is done and dusted. Finished in 1 hour, 10 minutes and 24 seconds which is not my slowest ever 10k. Now loafing on the sofa, watching the women's FA Cup final with a TENS machine on my arms. Because naturally, the sorest part of me after a run is my arms.
A fair skinned person lounges on a yellow sofa in a care bears t shirt. One arm rest on top of their head, showing electric leads of a TENS machine attached to the inner forearm.

Getting ready for the #GreatManchesterRun today. I'm doing the 10k, so have time still before I need to head to the start. Decided to see if there is any coverage of the race. None on BBC (boo!), but there is a live stream of the finish line on YouTube. I'll be on that live stream later today!

I volunteered to marshal at my local #parkrun since I'm running a 10k event tomorrow. But I may have clapped for the participants too much. Pretty sure some of my fingers are now subluxing. They feel like a bag of dice instead if a functional structure. Damn you, hEDS!

I was wrong. Many songs felt familiar and some were deeply nostalgic. Night and Day was the other most nostalgic one, but I'm not done yet.

Moving on now to In Our Heads (2012). Not sure if I know this album as a whole. The first few songs are certainly familiar but I only Don't Deny Your Heart has clear nostalgia for me. I'll carry on listening anyway.

So, Made in The Dark is fine. There are a couple of great songs but I can't say this album ever made it into heavy rotational play for me. It doesn't feel familiar, doesn't feel like it has any power or nostalgia. It's fine.

Jools @jools-cyborg.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Now onto Made in The Dark (2008). The Wikipedia article has amusing rumours about a possible collaboration with Kylie Minogue. A different mood for this album, I think. Apparently not recorded in a bedroom so that is probably a factor.

Jools @jools-cyborg.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
This is another album that I couldn't really tell you what my favourite track is. There are so many that speak to me. Maybe No Fit State? Or So Glad to See You. Maybe The Warning? I do like the threat that Hot Chip might break your legs or snap off your head.
100
Jools @jools-cyborg.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Apparently, The Warning was better received than their first album and was described as mixing violence with soul and as sounding like early New Order. Well. I know I like it. One friend of mine really did not though and said it was "repetitive monkey music". Can't win them all, I guess.

Jools @jools-cyborg.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Forgot to say that I had moved on to The Warning (2006). Another excellent album and the one that I actually encountered first. Very dance. Very nostalgia. Very good music videos too.

Oh. Now I have doubts. Maybe Shining Escalade is my favourite? Or Baby Said? Such a good album.

Crap Kraft Dinner might be my favourite song on this album. Contemplative, a bit sad, but also very dancey.

Jools @jools-cyborg.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Ah, every track is so familiar. Especially because these electro-soul (?) tracks have a sort of driving rhythm. I don't mean driving as in "they drive you forward" I just mean driving as in "the rhythm of utility poles passing as you drive past at a stead pace".

Jools @jools-cyborg.bsky.social · 29/05/2026
Time for another #AlbumParty! I'm starting off today with Hot Chip's 'Coming on Strong'. Wikipedia says it is from 2004 but Spotify says 2005. I love this album and have heard it so many times. It was the soundtrack to one of my years in Barcelona.

Well, that's it for this Album Party. I enjoyed Tool's music. Read they are 'prog metal'. That's not a thing I'd heard of. I like that they have a clear articistic voice - videos, rhythms, themes, etc. that are interesting but not mass appeal. I like when people are genuine instead of conformist.
