Last week we introduced "An Atlas for Postcarbon Futures": a collection of 29 exemplary projects at the heart of our new book "Building Postcarbon Futures." Like climate justice itself, the initiatives are all multi-dimensional. 9, however, center on urbanism. Some examples:
In Caño Martín Peña, Puerto Rico's largest and most vulnerable informal community, residents established the first community land trust in the Caribbean, providing stable housing and exceptional urban and ecological amenities to more than 2,000 low-income families.

I saw faculty careers detonated because of minor conflicts with these ideas/personalities, surveillance of all forms of electronic communication used to tank T/P cases, and students disillusioned by a campus so obviously beholden to conservative forces.

I saw Deans and Chairs hired bc of their fealty to these interests (or willingness to bend their schools/depts to them), censorship in overt and covert ways on faculty, and resources given/cut based on a willingness to serve folks who, for instance, funded Trump Super PACs.

A fiefdom for the private equity, real estate, and trust fund folks of NYC to impose their views on every aspect of campus life. I found a beleaguered campus, w/well meaning faculty and staff cohort who knew they could no longer push on the ocean of conservatism that governed it.
