Even though I never met Raúl Pacheco-Vega in person and he wouldn't have known who I am today's note of his loss has left me feeling sad and bereft. He was such a clear and always deeply sound voice in academia. And I benefitted from his resources on academic writing.

I know it's risky to read much into state-level elections, but the difference in these two maps is pretty striking. The left shows county-level votes for Trump and Harris in 2024 in Wisconsin. The right shows the results of yesterday's Supreme Court race, where the Democrat won in a landslide.

I find it is interesting that the President’s House situation has fully activated the political establishment in Philly. Not a bad thing—removing the signs is a travesty—but there are many things Trump is doing that are directly harming Philadelphians and which Mayor Parker refuses to address.

Lenfest bought the Inquirer for about $88m, and then endowed its parent non-profit (which also supports other projects) with about $70m. That's all a lot of money, but a reminder to billionaires as to how you can have a genuine positive impact rather than give $100m to Yale or whatever.
